Falkenberg
Falkenberg is a locality and the seat of Falkenberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 27,813 inhabitants in 2019 (out of a municipal total of about 45,000). It is located at the mouth of river Ätran. The name consists of the Swedish words for falcon (''falk'') and mountain (''berg''). Falkenberg is a popular tourist destination in the summers, and the main beach of the town is Skrea strand. History In the early part of the 13th century the Danish king built a fort on the east shore of the river Ätran, which eventually would give the town its name. Halland was at that time part of Denmark. It is known that falconry was pursued in the area. However, in Hallandia antiqua et hodierna, that specified a location ("mountain") where the falconry should have taken place, and which should have given name to the town, has later been shown to be incorrect. Falkenberg Municipality
Falkenberg Municipality (''Falkenbergs kommun'') is a municipality in Halland County on the Swedish west coast. The town Falkenberg is the municipal seat. The municipality was created in 1971 when the ''City of Falkenberg'' was amalgamated with six rural municipalities (themselves formed by the 1952 local government reform) and part of a seventh. There are 24 original entities within the area. Today, Falkenberg holds a strong position in the food and beverage industry with companies such as Arla Foods, Carlsberg and SIA Glass having plants in the city. In the inland Gekås, a major department store, draws visitors from all over the country. Falkenberg is also a tourist city, mainly for its many beaches. Falkenberg Bridge
The Falkenberg Bridge (Swedish ''Tullbron'', literally ''"The Toll Bridge"'') is a stone arch bridge in Falkenberg, Sweden, built between 1756 and 1761. The bridge spans the Ätran river and is a listed building since 1984. It underwent major repair and restoration works in 1927 and 1994. Falkenberg (fort)
Falkenberg (''Falkenbergshus'') was a fort located at Falkenberg in Halland County, Sweden. The fortification was located on the south strand of the river Ätran, about from the southern abutment of Falkenberg Bridge. It would later give name to the town of Falkenberg which was previously known as ''Ätraby''. History Falkenberg was first mentioned in 1298. In the early part of the 13th century the province of Halland was part of Denmark. The Danish kings had built a fortification on the east shore of the Ätran river in the community of Falkenberg. The fort was the site for several Nordic treaties during the fourteenth century. It was burnt down by Count Erik Magnusson (c. 1282 – 1318) in 1356 during his revolt against his father King Magnus IV of Sweden. The fortification was thereafter rebuilt. Halland County ( sv, Hallands län, link=no, ) is a county ('' län'') on the western coast of Sweden. It corresponds roughly to the cultural and historical province of Halland. Ätran (river)
Ätran is a Swedish river. The river is about 240 km long, and has its source in Gullered, Västergötland, at a height of 332 m above sea level. The river has its mouth in Falkenberg, Halland, where the river enters Kattegat. The drainage basin has an area of 3,343 km², of which most is forest. The river is well known as a good place for fishing. It is comparatively unpolluted A road used for thousands of years, ''Redvägen'', followed the river. Northern Seven Years' War
The Northern Seven Years' War (also known as the ''Nordic Seven Years' War'', the ''First Northern War'' or the ''Seven Years War in Scandinavia'') was fought between the Kingdom of Sweden (1523–1611), Kingdom of Sweden and a coalition of Denmark–Norway, Free City of Lübeck, Lübeck, and Polish–Lithuanian union, Poland–Lithuania between 1563 and 1570.
