Egyptian Second Division
The Egyptian Second Division () was an Egyptian semi-professional football league representing the second tier of the Egyptian football league system until 2023. It was administered by the Egyptian Football Association. It was below the top professional league in the country, the Egyptian Premier League, and above the regional league Egyptian Third Division. The league was reformed in 1977, and consisted of multiple groups covering different parts of Egypt, with the winner of each group either gaining automatic promotion to the Egyptian Premier League, or earning a place in the promotion play-offs, depending on the number of groups. 2016–17 Egyptian Second Division
The 2016–17 Egyptian Second Division (also known as dmc League for sponsorship reasons) was the 37th edition of the Egyptian Second Division, the top Egyptian semi-professional level for football clubs, since its establishment in 1977. The season began on 17 October 2016 and concluded on 21 May 2017. Fixtures for the 2016–17 season were announced on 26 September 2016. On 6 April 2017, Al Assiouty Sport were the first team to secure the promotion to the 2017–18 Egyptian Premier League from Group A, after defeating Beni Suef 2–1. Faiyum ( ; , ) is a city in Middle Egypt. Located southwest of Cairo, in the Faiyum Oasis, it is the capital of the modern Faiyum Governorate. It is one of Egypt's oldest cities due to its strategic location. The Egyptian football league system refers to the hierarchically interconnected league system (league pyramid) for Football in Egypt, association football in Egypt. All divisions are bound together by the principle of promotion and relegation. The system consists of five levels, with the top two levels being professional league. Below this, the semi-professional and amateur levels that have progressively more parallel divisions, which each cover progressively smaller geographic areas. Teams that finish at the top of their division at the end of each season can rise higher in the pyramid, while those that finish at the bottom find themselves sinking further down.
