Fairmont Subdivision
The Fairmont Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The line runs from Grafton, WV, Grafton northwest to Rivesville, WV, Rivesville along the old Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road main line and a former branch of it. At its southeast end, the Fairmont Subdivision junctions with the Mountain Subdivision near its west end, where it becomes the Bridgeport Subdivision. The northwest end is at a junction with the Norfolk Southern Railway's Loveridge Secondary, along which CSX has trackage rights north to the Mon Subdivision near Brownsville, Pennsylvania. History The majority of the Fairmont Subdivision, from Grafton to Fairmont, WV, Fairmont, was opened in 1852 as part of the B&O's main line. Mon Subdivision
The Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad (P&LE) , also known as the "Little Giant", was formed on May 11, 1875. Company headquarters were located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The line connected Pittsburgh in the east with Youngstown, Ohio in the Haselton neighborhood in the west and Connellsville, Pennsylvania to the east. It did not reach Lake Erie (at Ashtabula, Ohio) until the formation of Conrail in 1976. The P&LE was known as the "Little Giant" since the tonnage that it moved was out of proportion to its route mileage. While it operated around one tenth of one percent of the nation's railroad miles, it hauled around one percent of its tonnage. Railway companies can interact with and control others in many ways. These relationships can be complicated by bankruptcies.
