Fahmida Khatun (singer)
Fahmida Khatun is a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. She was awarded Shilpakala Padak in 2014. Early life Khatun was born to Qazi Motahar Hossain, a scientist and National Professor of Bangladesh. Her siblings include Sanjida Khatun, Qazi Mahbub Hussain and Qazi Anwar Hussain. Khatun started off as a dancer. She later turned to singing. As a school student, she took lessons in classical music at home. Her mentors were Ustad Munir Hussain in classical and Sanjida Khatun, Kalim Sharafi, Abdul Ahad in Tagore songs. Career In 1956, Khatun rendered songs of the ''mother'' character in ''Chandalika'', a dance drama. She rendered ''"Ami Tomar Shongey Bedhechhi Amar Praan"'' in the film ''Dharapat'', the first Rabindra Sangeet song used in a film made in the then East Pakistan. Qazi Motahar Hossain
Qazi Motahar Hossain (30 July 1897 – 9 October 1981) was a Bangladeshi writer, scientist, statistician, chess player, and journalist. Hossain was a pioneer educationalist of Bangladesh. He did original research in statistics and pioneered its education in Bangladesh both as a faculty and administrator. As one of the early faculties of University of Dhaka, he was vigorously active in the cultural circles that grew around it. As a Dhaka-centric literary figure in late British India, a period marked by communality and religious sentiment, Hossain and his literary group ''Shikha'' distinguished themselves as proponents of communal harmony and rationalism. He was among the sceptical intellectuals who warned of the consequences of the short-lived state of Pakistan. East Pakistan was the eastern province of Pakistan between 1955 and 1971, restructured and renamed from the province of East Bengal and covering the territory of the modern country of Bangladesh. Qazi Anwar Hussain (19 July 1936 – 19 January 2022) was a Bangladeshi writer of spy thrillers, detective novels, and adventure-based literature, many of which were adaptations or heavily influenced by foreign works. Early life and education Qazi Shamsuddin Anwar Hussain was born on 19 July 1936 to Qazi Motahar Hossain, a scientist and writer. His sisters included the singers Sanjida Khatun and Fahmida Khatun. He matriculated from St. Gregory's School in 1952. He studied Bengali literature and language, earning a bachelor's degree from Jagannath College, and a master's degree from the University of Dhaka in 1981. Abdul Ahad (music Director)
Abdul Ahad (18 January 1918 – 14 May 1996) was a Bangladeshi composer, music director and singer. He was the recipient of Independence Day Award in 1978. The Government of Pakistan awarded him Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 1962 and Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1969 for his contribution to music. Early life Ahad was born in Rajshahi in the then Bengal Presidency. He took lessons from Ustad Bali and Ustad Manju Sahib. He took part in the All-Bengal Music Competition in 1936 and stood first in the Thumri and Ghazal section. Kalim Sharafi
Kalim Sharafi (8 May 1924 – 2 November 2010) was a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. He joined at Indian independence movement. He gave his ideas in several publications regarding politics, culture, and Tagore. He is regarded as one of the best Rabindra Sangeet singers in the subcontinent. Early life Sharafi was born in Birbhum district of West Bengal on 8 May 1924. He was the only son of three children. He had two younger sisters. He was from a pir family, a tradition against music, and they came from Sonargaon. He was first influenced by his father who was a singer.
