Dissolve (filmmaking)
In the post-production process of film editing, film and video editing, a dissolve (sometimes called a lap dissolve) is a type of film transition in which one Sequence (filmmaking), sequence fades over another. The terms fade-out (also called fade to black) and fade-in are used to describe a transition to and from a blank image. This is in contrast to a Cut (transition), cut, where there is no such transition. A dissolve overlaps two Shot (filmmaking), shots for the duration of the effect, usually at the end of one scene and the beginning of the next, but may also be used in Montage (filmmaking), montage sequences. Generally, but not always, the use of a dissolve is held to indicate that a time has passed between the two scenes. Also, it may indicate a change of location or the start of a Flashback (narrative), flashback. Creation of effect In the film, this effect is usually created with an optical printer by controlling double exposure from frame to frame. In linear video ed ...

Fade (audio Engineering)
In audio engineering, a fade is a gradual increase or decrease in the level of an audio signal. The term can also be used for film cinematography or theatre lighting in much the same way (see fade (filmmaking) and fade (lighting)). In sound recording and reproduction a song may be gradually reduced to silence at its end (fade-out), or may gradually increase from silence at the beginning (fade-in). Fading-out can serve as a recording solution for pieces of music that contain no obvious ending. Quick fade-ins and -outs can also be used to change the characteristics of a sound, such as to soften the attack in vocal plosives and percussion sounds. Professional turntablists and DJs in hip hop music use faders on a DJ mixer, notably the horizontal crossfader, in a rapid fashion while simultaneously manipulating two or more record players (or other sound sources) to create ''scratching'' and develop beats. Club DJs in house music and techno use DJ mixers, two or more sound s ...

Fade In (film)
''Fade In'' is a 1968 American romantic drama film starring Burt Reynolds and Barbara Loden, released in 1973. It was filmed in tandem with the Silvio Narizzano film ''Blue'', with its actors appearing unbilled in various scenes. When the film was released in 1973, it was credited to the pseudonym Alan Smithee (though the onscreen credit reads "Allen Smithee"), making it the earliest film to be shot to use that pseudonym. It had initially been created for the film '' Death of a Gunfighter'', which was released in 1969. Plot A large movie production crew makes camp in Moab, Utah, to shoot a period western, and enlists several locals to assist the production. Michael Piller (May 30, 1948 – November 1, 2005) was an American television scriptwriter and producer, who was best known for his contributions to the ''Star Trek'' franchise. Early life and career Piller was born to a Jewish family in Port Chester, New York. His parents were both involved in writing; Gene Piller, his father, was a Hollywood screenwriter and his mother, Ruth Roberts, was a songwriter and composer. However, he then moved to Los Angeles, California and the entertainment side of television in the late 1970s, working as a censor and then a programming executive for CBS.
