Face The Music (American Game Show)
''Face the Music'' is an American television game show that aired daily in television syndication, syndication from January 14, 1980, to September 1981. The show was hosted by actor Ron Ely, with Dave Williams as announcer for the first season and John Harlan (announcer), John Harlan for the second with Art James as a substitute. The Tommy Oliver Orchestra, with Lisa Donovan as vocalist, was also featured. ''Face the Music'' was produced and distributed by Sandy Frank Productions. The basic premise of ''Face the Music'' was a musical guessing game in the same vein as ''Name That Tune'', which Frank was also distributing when ''Face the Music'' premiered and for whom Oliver had been the orchestra director during the mid-1970s. The twist, however, was that in addition to identifying the songs that the orchestra played, the contestants had to link the song titles to famous people, places, and things. Sandy Frank
Sandy Frank (born Sundel Francous; July 11, 1929) is an American television producer, distributor, and marketer of TV shows to US networks. Early life and career Frank grew up in Mount Kisco, New York. He started his career as a sales executive for Paramount Pictures, subsequently moving on to Guild Films, and NBC television. Later, he was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales with the television division of the Wrather Corporation, which produced and distributed the ''Lassie'' and ''Lone Ranger'' TV programs. In 1964, he opened Sandy Frank Program Sales Inc. as his first company. Band Of Gold (Freda Payne Song)
"Band of Gold" is a song written and composed by former Motown producers Holland–Dozier–Holland (under the pseudonym of Edythe Wayne) and Ron Dunbar. It was a major hit when first recorded by Freda Payne in 1970 for the Invictus label, owned by H-D-H. The song has been recorded by numerous artists, notably competing 1986 versions by contrasting pop singers Belinda Carlisle and Bonnie Tyler, and a 2007 version by Kimberley Locke. The legendary songwriting team of Holland–Dozier–Holland used the name Edythe Wayne because of a lawsuit in which they were embroiled with Motown. Ron Dunbar was a staff employee and producer for Invictus. Simon Barnett (born 23 March 1967) is a radio and television host and presenter in New Zealand. ''Face the Music'' is a weekly game show from New Zealand that aired on TV2 from 1992 to 1994, hosted by TV presenter Simon Barnett, along with Dwayne Francks as co-host. Jeoff Barraclough was the announcer as well as music coordinator. Round 1 Three contestants competed per episode, one a returning champion. In round 1, four categories were presented to the players, each containing four notes, with each note ranging from 50 to 100 points (in 5-point increments). A song was played, and the first contestant to buzz-in and identify the song got the points. A wrong answer meant the player was out for the next song, though, and the other two could guess. Occasionally, they would answer a question related to the song rather than trying to guess the song itself. Thomas Joseph Tedesco (July 3, 1930 – November 10, 1997) was an American guitarist and studio musician in Los Angeles and Hollywood. He was part of the loose collective of the area's leading session musicians later popularly known as The Wrecking Crew, who played on thousands of studio recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, including several hundred Top 40 hits.
