Fabian Debora
Fabian Debora (born November 11, 1975) is a Chicano artist based out of East Los Angeles known for paintings that capture the immigrant and gang experiences in Los Angeles. His works include graffiti, murals, sketches, and fine art paintings. Early life Fabian was born in El Paso, Texas, to Mexican immigrant parents. His family moved to the affordable housing projects in Boyle Heights, East L.A. Struggling with poverty, lack of resources, exposure to gang violence, and a father in and out of jail, Debora struggled with anger issues and used his artwork as an outlet. During his middle school years he attended Dolores Mission Catholic School, and was kicked out after lashing out at a teacher who ripped up his artwork in class. After this, Debora was sent to public school where exposure to gang-related activity increased. Chicano
Chicano or Chicana is a chosen identity for many Mexican Americans in the United States. The label ''Chicano'' is sometimes used interchangeably with ''Mexican American'', although the terms have different meanings. While Mexican-American identity was related to encouraging assimilation into White American society and separating the community from the African-American political struggle, Chicano identity emerged among anti-assimilationist youth. Some belonged to the Pachuco subculture, and claimed the term (which had previously been a classist and racist slur). The Eastside is an urban region in Los Angeles County, California. It includes the Los Angeles City neighborhoods east of the Los Angeles River — that is, Boyle Heights, El Sereno, and Lincoln Heights — as well as unincorporated East Los Angeles.
