Homebush West is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Homebush West is located 13 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield, with a small unpopulated strip in the northwest in Cumberland Council. The suburb is commonly referred to as Flemington, even in official contexts. This was the old name of the suburb before the establishment of Sydney Markets in 1975. Flemington is a borough in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,330 at the 2010 census. In 1770, Squire John Flemming, who later was a Revolutionary War soldier, purchased about 1650 acres situated between Bald Eagle Creek and the West branch of the Susquehanna River encompassing much of present day Lock Haven and Flemington (named after the family). The Flemings built a large house on the bank of the river close to the southern abutment of a nearby dam and it could be seen from the highway between Flemington and Lock Haven. The Flemings were descended from the Earl of Wigton of Scotland, and had their own coat of arms. They were among the first settlers of the area. Halfway is a largely suburban area in the town of Cambuslang, Scotland, located within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire. Flemington was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created in 1904 with the abolition of Essendon and Flemington. The new seat was won by the former Labor member for the abolished seat, Edward Warde. Flemington was abolished in 1945 when several new districts were created, including Moonee Ponds.
