Futbolo klubas Panevėžys, commonly known as Panevėžys, is a Lithuanian professional football club from the city of Panevėžys. The team currently plays in A Lyga, the top tier of Lithuanian football. History The city of Panevėžys has a long history of football in Lithuania. Until 2014, the city was represented by 7-time title winners FK Ekranas. However, FK Ekranas was unable to meet the financial criteria to participate in the 2015 season and lost eligibility to participate in the A Lyga. The club was declared bankrupt. To fill the void, ''FK Panevėžys'' was established at the beginning of 2015, right before the new season started. The club made its debut in the I Lyga (second tier), finishing its first season in eighth place. In 2016, the club improved its performance and finished in fifth place. Aukštaitija Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Panevėžys, Lithuania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of FK Panevėžys and earlier of FK Ekranas Panevėžys. Valdas Urbonas (born 29 November 1967) is a Lithuanian professional association football, football manager and former player who currently is the manager of the Lithuania national football team, Lithuania national team. Club career Urbonas began his career at Mokslas Vilnius, before moving to FK Neris Vilnius, Neris Vilnius in 1990. In 1991, Urbonas briefly played for :lt:SM Vienybė Ukmergė, Vienybė Ukmergė, before moving to Lithuanian Sports Club Makabi, Vilnius Makabi. 2017 Lithuanian Football Cup
The 2017 Lithuanian Football Cup, also known as LFF Cup, was the seventy-second season of the Lithuanian annual football knock-out tournament. Forty-four teams entered the competitions, which started on 27 April and ended on 24 September in Aukštaitija Stadium, Panevėžys. Stumbras defeated defending champions Žalgiris 1–0 in the final and have qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League. Participants Participation in the competition was mandatory for all clubs of the first three tiers (A Lyga, LFF I Lyga and II Lyga). Despite that two II Lyga sides - NFA and Šiauliai FA weren't competing. Teams of lower divisions were eligible to join if they met additional criterios. The 2017 LFF I Lyga is the 28th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 24 March 2017 and is scheduled to end on 5 November 2017. Lithuanian Supercup
The Lithuanian Supercup () or LFF Supercup is an annual football match contested between the champions of the previous A Lyga season and the holders of the Lithuanian Football Cup. It is organised by and named after Lithuanian Football Federation and played at the beginning of the season. For sponsorship reasons, it is currently also known as the LFF TOPsport Supercup. Until 2016, if the Lithuanian championship and the Cup was won by the same team, the match was not held and the Supercup was awarded automatically to the winning team. Since 2016 the format was changed and double winners then play the league runners-up. The trophy has been contested since 1995 with four interruptions. The current holders are Panevėžys who defeated TransInvest in the 2024 Lithuanian Supercup. The Lithuanian Football Federation Cup (), also known as Hegelmann LFF Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a Lithuanian football cup competition contested in a knockout tournament format. The winner of the cup gains entitlement to participate in the Lithuanian Supercup as well as the UEFA Europa Conference League. Participation is mandatory for the clubs playing in A Lyga and I Lyga. Participation is voluntary for all lower division teams as long as they meet basic eligibility criteria. Club reserve and youth teams are not eligible to participate.
