FIH Awards
The FIH Awards are awarded annually by the International Hockey Federation to the male and female field hockey Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalk ... players adjudged to be the best in the world. International Hockey Federation
The International Hockey Federation, commonly known by the acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH is responsible for field hockey's major international tournaments, notably the Hockey World Cup. History FIH was founded on 7 January 1924 in Paris by Paul Léautey, who became the first president, in response to field hockey's omission from the programme of the 1924 Summer Olympics. First members complete to join the seven founding members were Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain, and Switzerland. In 1982, the FIH merged with the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA), which had been founded in 1927 by Australia, Denmark, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the United States, and Wales. Pol Amat
Pablo "Pol" Amat Escudé (born 18 June 1978 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain) is a Spanish retired field hockey player, who played as a striker. In 2008 he was awarded World Hockey Player of the Year, becoming the first Spaniard to win the award. Career National team Amat made his international debut at the age of 17 in 1995 before being selected for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. That year, Spain won silver with Amat playing alongside legends such as Juan Escarré and Javier Arnau. After competing for Spain in both the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics, he won another silver medal in Beijing 2008. He was also part of the Spanish team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The striker won his first major title with the Spaniards at the 2004 Champions Trophy in Lahore. Arguably Amat's finest hour came in the final of the 2005 European Nations Cup. Bevan George
Bevan Christopher George (born 22 March 1977 in Narrogin, Western Australia) is a field hockey defender from Australia. Field hockey National team George won a gold medal with the Australia national field hockey team (''The Kookaburras'') at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and captained The Kookaburras at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where they won a bronze medal. George retired from international competition after the Beijing Games, having played 208 games for Australia. In the 2005 Australia Day Honours George was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). He was also part of the Australian Junior Team that won the golden medal at the Junior World Cup in Milton Keynes, 1997. George, nicknamed ''Jethro'', played his 100th match for ''The Kookaburras'' on 23 May 2004 against Belgium during the European Tour. Jeroen Petrus Maria Delmee (born 8 March 1973 in Boxtel) is a field hockey player from the Netherlands. Delmee was an Olympic champion for the Netherlands in the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics.
