Sandy Griffiths
Benjamin Mervyn "Sandy" Griffiths (17 January 1909 – 21 January 1974) was a Welsh football referee from Abertillery, Monmouthshire. In his professional life he was a teacher. Career He first took up a teaching post in Devon but soon returned to Newport and began his refereeing career in 1934 in local leagues. Within five seasons he was appointed to the Football League list as a linesman and, after the War, refereed the England versus Scotland clash in 1949, and then the 1953 FA Cup Final, otherwise known as the Matthews Final. It was his decision, with two minutes remaining, that enabled Stan Mortensen to equalise from a free-kick awarded just outside the penalty area. Griffiths represented Wales at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 World Cup Finals. In the first of these he appeared in the opening fixture, and in the second took charge of the semi-final between Hungary and Uruguay, and assisting William Ling in the final. Rudolf Scheurer
Rudolf Scheurer (May 25, 1925 – November 1, 2015) was a football (soccer) referee from Bettlach, most remembered for supervising four matches at the FIFA World Cup: two in 1970 and 1974. During his peak times, Scheurer was a high-profile referee: In 1970, he was nominated as linesman (assistant referee 1) in the final between Brazil and Italy. In 1974, he was awarded the opening game. Scheurer also whistled in 1970 and 1974 World Cup qualifiers, UEFA Euro 1972 qualifying The qualifying round for the 1972 European Football Championship consisted of 32 teams divided into eight groups of four teams. Rudi Glöckner
Rudolf Glöckner (20 March 1929, in Markranstädt – 25 January 1999, in Markranstädt) was the first German to referee a football World Cup final when he took charge of the 1970 FIFA World Cup final between Brazil and Italy in Mexico City. Glöckner, from what was then East Germany, had a long international career, officiating at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and also matches in the 1976 European Championship. He refereed the game between ADO Den Haag and West Ham United in the 1976 European Cup Winners Cup.
