Engineers Australia (EA) is an Australian professional body and not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community. Engineers Australia is Australia's recognized organization for accreditation of professional engineering qualifications under the Washington Accord. As of 2022, EA has 115,000 members, which includes 31,000 students. History The organisation began after World War I, following recognition of the need for a single body to represent engineers, rather than the numerous smaller organisations that existed then. Keith Noel Everal ("Bill") Bradfield , FIEAust (25 December 1910 – 12 June 2006), also known as K. N. E. Bradfield, was an Australian civil and aviation engineer, public servant and diplomat, who served two terms as Australia's Permanent Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization. Air Vice Marshal Julie Hammer, (born 17 February 1955) is an Australian engineer and a retired senior officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). She was the first woman to be promoted to one-star rank, and also the first woman to be promoted to two-star rank, in the Australian Defence Force. Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah is a Tamil Australian engineer, academic and head of the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales. Early life Ambikairajah was educated at Jaffna Hindu College between 1959 and 1969. He graduated from the University of Sri Lanka (Katubedda campus) in 1974 with a BSc (Eng) honours degree in electronic engineering and telecommunications. Rose Amal (born 1965) is an Australian chemical engineer, currently serving as Scientia Professor and ARC Laureate Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where she is the director of the Particles and Catalysis Research Group.
