FIDAL
The Italian Athletics Federation ( Italian: ''Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera'', FIDAL), is the governing body for athletics in Italy since 1906. The Italian Federation, founded on 21 October 1906, on initiative of ''La Gazzetta dello Sport'', as Federazione Podistica Italiana (FPI), has been recognised by International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF), now World Athletics, since its Berlin Congress in 1913. Stefano Mei
Stefano Mei (born 3 February 1963 in La Spezia) is an Italian long-distance runner who specialized in the 5000 and 10000 metres. European champion on 10000 m in 1986. From 31 January 2021 he is the new president of Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL). Biography Stefano Mei won eight medals, at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. He participated at two editions of the Summer Olympics (1984 and 1988), he has 42 caps in national team from 1981 to 1994. In his career he won 8 times the national championships. Since 2 December 2012 Stefano Mei was Federal Councillor of the Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera (FIDAL), in the Franco Arese leaderships. Franco Arese
Francesco "Franco" Arese (born 13 April 1944 in Centallo) is an Italian middle-distance runner, competing mainly at 1500 m. Arese won the 1500 meters final at the 1971 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland. He was the President of Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL). Biography Arese has won several Italian championships on 800, 1500 and 5000 meters. He competed in both the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, but on both occasions failed to qualify for the final. Primo Nebiolo
Primo Nebiolo (14 July 1923 – 7 November 1999) was an Italian sports official, best known as president of the worldwide athletics federation IAAF. Primo Nebiolo was the ideator of the IAAF Continental Cup. Biography As an active athlete in his younger days, Nebiolo was a long jumper. He later studied law and political science and became a businessman in construction. Nebiolo became president of the International University Sports Federation, which among other things arranges the Universiade, in 1961. From 1969 to 1989 he was the president of the Italian Athletics Federation. He became a member of the IAAF council in 1972, president of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations in 1983 and a member of the International Olympic Committee in 1992. He played a role in winning the 2006 Winter Olympics bid for his home city Turin. Massimo Cartasegna (30 June 1885 – 15 April 1964) was an Italian athlete who competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Biography He was born in Turin. The first event was the 1500 metres, in which Cartasegna did not finish his first round semifinal heat and did not advance to the final. In the 400 metres event, Cartasegna placed second in his preliminary heat with a time of 52.7 seconds, behind Louis Sebert's 50.2 seconds and did not advance to the semifinals. In the 3200 metre steeplechase competition he was eliminated in the first round. He was also a member of the Italian team which was eliminated in the first round of the 3 mile team race. Emilio Lunghi
Emilio Lunghi (16 March 1887, in Genoa – 27 September 1925) was an Italian athlete. He won the silver medal in the men's 800 metres race at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, making him the first Italian to win an Olympic medal. Biography His time in the race was 1:54.2, which beat the previous Olympic record by 1.8 seconds but was still 1.4 seconds behind the time of Mel Sheppard, who took gold and set a new record at 1:52.8. Lunghi had won his semifinal heat with a time of 1:57.2 to advance to the final. Lunghi also competed in the 1500 metres. His first-round heat also included Norman Hallows; both of the two runners broke the Olympic record in that heat, but Hallows came out on top by running the race in 4:03.4 as opposed to Lunghi's 4:03.8.
