FC Melun
Football Club de Melun is a football club located in Melun, France. As of the 2021–22 season, it competes in the Régional 2, the seventh tier of French football. History The club was founded as US Melun in 1894. In the 1970s and 1980s, the club competed mostly in the Division 3, but reached the Division 2 on two occasions, during the 1977–78 and 1987–88 seasons. The second occasion the club reached the Division 2, it was as Entente Melun-Fontainebleau 77, the club that formed from a merger in 1987 between CS Fontainebleau and US Melun. However, in 1988, the Entente split, and Melun merged with Dammarie-lès-Lys to create a new club called in Sporting Melun-Dammarie 77. In 1992, the club took the new name of FC Melun and was administratively relegated several divisions. Régional 2
The French football league system, also known as the French football pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in France and Monaco, and includes one Spanish side. At the top two levels of the system is the Ligue de Football Professionnel, which consists of two professional national divisions, Ligue 1, Ligue 2. Below that are a number of leagues run by the Fédération Française de Football. At level 3 is the semi-professional Championnat National. Below that is the Championnat National 2 (level 4), which is divided into four parallel regional divisions, followed by the Championnat National 3 (level 5), which is divided into eleven parallel regional divisions. Entente Melun-Fontainebleau 77 was a football club located in the towns of Melun and Fontainebleau, France. It was founded in 1987 as a result of a merger between CS Fontainebleau and US Melun, but the club split in 1988. CS Fontainebleau returned to their former name, while US Melun merged with Dammarie-lès-Lys to create Sporting Melun-Dammarie 77.
