FC Abcoude is a football club based in the town of Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands, whose main team competes in the Tweede Klasse, the seventh tier of the Dutch football league system. Founded on 13 June 1973, the team plays its home matches at Sportpark Hollandse Kade. History FC Abcoude was formed in 1973 through the merger of AFC '37 and RKSV Abekewalda. Abcoude
Abcoude () is a town and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. Since 2011 it has been part of the municipality of De Ronde Venen. Population centres The former municipality of Abcoude consisted of the villages Abcoude and Baambrugge, and the hamlet Stokkelaarsbrug. Geography Abcoude lies in the Province Utrecht, about 13 km southeast of (the centre of) Amsterdam, on the confluence of the Angstel River, Gein River and Holendrecht River. In 2001, the town of Abcoude had 6431 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.28 km², and contained 2678 residences. The current approximation is over 8000. The Tweede Klasse ( en, Second Class) is the seventh tier of football in the Netherlands and the fifth tier of Dutch amateur football. The league is divided into 22 divisions, 10 played on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Each division consists of 14 teams. Dutch Football League System
The Dutch football league system consists of two fully professional leagues (Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie) and eight levels of amateur football leagues, the highest of which is called Tweede Divisie, formerly Topklasse. All the leagues are connected by a promotion and relegation system, but in order to be promoted to the Eerste Divisie a club has to submit a solid business plan to be approved by the Royal Dutch Football Association, as well as meet certain stadium demands, and some other demands that the association stated for all the teams in the top two leagues. That way it was possible that the IJsselmeervogels won the 2010–11 Topklasse, but was not promoted, because they did not want to be bound to these demands. FC Oss was promoted instead. The Royal Dutch Football Association (, ; KNVB ) is the governing body of football in the Netherlands. Rudolfus 'Ruud' Hubertus Hesp (born 31 October 1965) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Edson René Braafheid (born 8 April 1983) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays as a left-back for amateur club Palm Beach Stars. Braafheid started his career with Eredivisie side Utrecht in 2003, before moving on to FC Twente in 2007 on a free transfer.
