F.L.M. (album)
''F.L.M.'' is the only studio album by British pop duo Mel and Kim, released on 13 April 1987 by Supreme Records. The album peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart and has been certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). It also reached the top five in Australia, Finland and Switzerland, the 10 in Norway and the top 20 in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Three successful singles are included on the album: " Showing Out" (number three on the UK Singles Chart), "Respectable" (number one) and " F.L.M." (number seven). Background and release The album was predominantly written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) and contained a mixture of house-infused productions and downtempo, soulful songs. Supreme Records head Nick East said the original plan was to release "every track" from the album as a single, "like ichael Jackson's''Thriller''", but Mel's cancer diagnosis forced the abandonment of the plan. Mel And Kim
Mel and Kim (stylized as MӗL & KIM) were an English pop duo, consisting of sisters Melanie and Kim Appleby. Originally managed by Alan Whitehead, they achieved success between 1986 and 1988, before Melanie died of cancer in January 1990 at the age of 23. The duo reached number one in the UK Singles Chart with their 1987 single " Respectable", which also topped the US dance chart. They had three other UK Top 10 hits with " Showing Out (Get Fresh at the Weekend)" (1986), " F.L.M." (1987) and "That's the Way It Is" (1988). In 1988, they were nominated for a Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act. After Mel's death, Kim embarked on a solo career and had two UK Top 10 hits with " Don't Worry" (1990) and "G.L.A.D." ''Thriller'' is the sixth studio album by the American singer and songwriter Michael Jackson, released on November 29, 1982, by Epic Records. It was produced by Quincy Jones, who had previously worked with Jackson on his 1979 album ''Off the Wall''. Jackson wanted to create an album where "every song was a killer". With the ongoing backlash against disco music at the time, he moved in a new musical direction, resulting in a mix of pop, post-disco, rock, funk, and R&B sounds. ''Thriller'' foreshadows the contradictory themes of Jackson's personal life, as he began using a motif of paranoia and darker themes. European Top 100 Albums
The European Top 100 Albums chart was the European adaptation of the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart. It ran from March 1984 until December 2010. Also commonly referred to as Eurochart Top 100 Albums, the chart showcased the sales of an act in 19 European countries based on IFPI data. The European Top 100 combined album sales (both retail and digital) of new and older albums. The methodology was different from the US ''Billboard'' 200, where albums would only be allowed to chart if they weren't 18 months old. If an album older than 18 months had enough sales to enter the 200 chart after having already dropped out of the 100th position, it would chart on The ''U.S. Billboard'' Catalog Albums. Background and release By the time of the single's release, Melanie Appleby had been diagnosed with cancer and had withdrawn from the public eye in mid-1987. Appleby discharged herself from hospital to record the vocals for the track, with the singer keen for a return to normality and the distraction of a creative outlet after months of rigorous treatment.
