Get Happy!! (Elvis Costello Album)
''Get Happy!!'' is the fourth studio album by the English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, and his third with the Attractions — keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas and drummer Pete Thomas (no relation). It was released on 15February 1980 through F-Beat Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in the United States. Produced by Nick Lowe and engineered by Roger Béchirian, the sessions began in London but moved to the Netherlands after Costello found the material derivative of his previous album, ''Armed Forces'' (1979). The sessions were problematic but resulted in a large number of songs; the final album contains 20 tracks across a single LP. A departure from Costello's prior works, ''Get Happy!!'' was influenced by R&B, ska and soul music of the 1960s. Two cover songs are included: Sam & Dave's " I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down" and the Merseybeats' "I Stand Accused". In contrast to the upbeat music, the mostly downbeat lyrics concern doomed romances ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down
"I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down" is a song written by Homer Banks and Allen Jones. Originally recorded by soul duo Sam & Dave in 1967, the song was famously covered by new wave musician Elvis Costello with his backing band the Attractions in 1980 for their album '' Get Happy!!''. Original version "I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down" was originally recorded by Sam & Dave in 1967. The Sam & Dave version was issued as the B-side to their live cover of Sam Cooke's "Soothe Me". Elvis Costello and the Attractions version Elvis Costello and the Attractions covered the song in 1980 for the album '' Get Happy!!''. Costello's version was drastically rearranged from the original, turning it from a slow soul ballad into an uptempo Northern soul-style dance track. It was one of three singles taken from the album in the UK. It was supposed to be released on the 2 Tone Records label in the UK, but even though copies were pressed, contractual difficulties eventually halted its release on t ... Blanket Of Secrecy
Blanket of Secrecy (BoS) was a short-lived English new wave band formed in 1982. The band was notable for the fact that its band members, true to their band name, were never officially identified at the time - only the pseudonyms Tinker, Tailor and Soldier were disclosed to refer to the main members. (The writing credits of two BoS songs also mentioned Spy and Sailor as co-authors). This led to some speculation in the music press regarding the true identity of the members, with rumours that they might be the Attractions (Elvis Costello's backing band) and speculation that the lead singer was Jack Hues of Wang Chung. However, they were eventually revealed to be Peter Marsh (Tinker, the lead singer), Andy Howell (Tailor), and Roger Bechirian (Soldier). Two other songwriters -- Phil McWalter (Spy) and Ron Chadwick (Sailor) -- were also associated with the project, but were not band members. Their music was synth-pop, similar to their contemporaries A Flock of Seagulls, a ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Coward Brothers
Declan Patrick MacManus (born 25 August 1954), known professionally as Elvis Costello, is an English singer, songwriter, record producer, author and television host. According to ''Rolling Stone'', Costello "reinvigorated the literate, lyrical traditions of Bob Dylan and Van Morrison with the raw energy and sass that were principal ethics of punk", noting the "construction of his songs, which set densely layered wordplay in an ever-expanding repertoire of styles". His first album, '' My Aim Is True'' (1977), spawned no hit singles, but contains some of Costello's best-known songs, including the ballad " Alison". Costello's next two albums, ''This Year's Model'' (1978) and ''Armed Forces'' (1979), recorded with his backing band the Attractions, helped define the new wave genre. From late 1977 until early 1980, each of the eight singles he released reached the UK Top 30. His biggest hit single, " Oliver's Army" (1979), sold more than 500,000 copies in Britain.
