Expo64
The Swiss national exposition of 1964 (French: ''Exposition nationale suisse de 1964''), usually shortened to Expo 64, was the 5th Swiss National Exhibition, swiss national exhibiton held in Lausanne, more specifically in Vidy and the neighbouring Vallée de la Jeunesse, between 30 April and 25 October 1964. Expo 64 was directed by Gabriel Despland, with Alberto Camenzind as chief architect, Edmond Henri as administrative director, and Paul Ruckstuhl as financial director. The syndic of Lausanne, Georges-André Chevallaz, was also part of the direction committee. Swiss National Exhibition
The Swiss National Exhibition is a periodically held national event showcasing Switzerland. History In Europe, exhibitions emerged in the late 18th century. Unlike Trade fair, fairs and Market (economics), markets, they served only partially commercial purposes. Following early art exhibitions in England and France, the Exposition des produits de l’industrie française in 1798 marked Europe’s first major industrial exhibition, showcasing the achievements of the First French Republic. In Switzerland, the first art and industrial exhibition took place in 1804, with 399 exhibitors from multiple Cantons of Switzerland, cantons. These events were repeated in 1810, 1818, 1824, and 1830. Scex Rouge
The Scex Rouge (also spelled ''Sex Rouge''; lit. "red rock"; ) is a mountain of the Alps, overlooking Les Diablerets in the canton of Vaud. Along with the Oldenhorn to the east, it is one of the main peaks of the Diablerets, a huge ice-covered mountain near the western end of the Bernese Alps, straddling the border between the cantons of Vaud, Valais, and Canton of Bern, Bern, and exceeding above sea level. On its west side, the Scex Rouge is part of a nearly amphitheatre of cliffs surrounding the Creux de Champ valley, south of Les Diablerets. Auguste Piccard (PX-8)
The ''Auguste Piccard'' mesoscaphe, also known simply as the ''Mésoscaphe'', was a crewed underwater submarine designed in 1964 by Jacques Piccard, son of Auguste Piccard. It was the world's first passenger submarine, built for Expo64, the 1964 Swiss national exhibition in Lausanne. It was built at the Giovanola fabrication plant in Monthey and the first immersion took place in Le Bouveret on 27 February 1964. It has a total of 45 Plexiglas portholes, with 20 on each side for the 40 passengers. The ''Auguste Piccard'' achieved 1,100 dives in Lake Geneva with 33,000 visitors in 1964 and 1965, to a depth of approximately 150 metres. Les Diablerets
Les Diablerets is a village and ski resort located in the municipality of Ormont-Dessus in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The village lies at an altitude of on the north side of the massif of the Diablerets, , in the Swiss Alps. It can be accessed on the Aigle–Sépey–Diablerets railway line or by road from Aigle.
