Exit (play)
''Exit'' is an Australian play by Dymphna Cusack. She described it as a "tongue in cheek comedy". Originally written for the stage it was adapted for radio by Joy Hollyer in 1957. Premise "Mark Garrett, at thirty, has written one successful book and is at work on another when he comes under the influence of Theodore Cavendish, a man of sixty, founder of a new philosophy Fifth Dimensionalism. This philosophy preaches the utter worthlessness of life. Theodore proclaims that the first man who seeks his own liberation will be the first hero and martyr of Fifth Dimensionalism. Mark finds himself cast for this role But he is disconcerted when he finds that arrangements for his passing are being taken calmly by his friends and relatives." Dymphna Cusack
Ellen Dymphna Cusack Order of Australia, AM (21 September 1902 – 19 October 1981) was an Australian writer and playwright. She also wrote as Atalanta. Personal life Born in Wyalong, New South Wales, Cusack was educated at Saint Ursula's College, Armidale, New South Wales and graduated from the University of Sydney with an honours degree in arts and a diploma in Education. She worked as a teacher until she retired in 1944 for health reasons. Her illness was confirmed in 1978 as multiple sclerosis. She died at Manly, New South Wales, Manly, New South Wales on 19 October 1981. Career Cusack wrote twelve novels (two of which were collaborations), eleven plays, three travel books, two children's books and one non-fiction book. Dinah Hilary Shearing (12 February 1926 – 14 June 2021) was an Australian actress, active in all facets of the industry, in particular theatre. Early life and education Dinah Hilary Shearing was born on 12 February 1926 in Sydney, to English parents. She attained honours in exams to A.Mus.A at Sydney Conservatorium in 1945. Career Shearing appeared on stage, radio, television and films in a career that spanned more than 60 years. Subverted from her initial intention of becoming a commercial artist or a singer, she began acting with May Hollinworth's Metropolitan Theatre in Sydney after graduation. Lyndall Barbour
Lyndall Harvey Barbour (19 May 1916 – 10 October 1986) was an Australian actress, primarily of radio, although she also added stage and television work (both series and made-for-television movies) to her repertoire. Born in Egypt to Australian parents, she was a three time recipient of the Macquarie Radio Network award. Early life Lyndall Harvey Barbour was born in Cairo, the daughter of Australian parents Eric Pitty Barbour and Dora Frances Blanche Barbour (Grieve). Both of her parents were born in New South Wales. Richard Meikle
Richard Meikle (10 October 1929 – 2 June 1991) was an Australian actor who worked extensively in film, theatre, and radio. He was the father of writer Sam Meikle. Career Meikle began his career as a stage actor. His first recorded role was in Metropolitan Theatre's production of ''Ned Kelly'' in 1947. In the 1950s, Meikle moved into radio acting, most prominently with Grace Gibson Radio Productions. Meikle's voice landed him many major roles with the company as both an actor and an announcer. Meikle was included in Reg James' list of his favourite Grace Gibson performances for his starring role alongside John Unicomb in the serial ''Becket''. Another factor working in Meikle's favour was his ability and desire to perform his own sound effects. Grace Gibson Productions' budget did not cover a professional sound effects person and as such actors who could do effects themselves were highly sought after.
