Exhorder is an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana. They are considered progenitors of the groove (music), groove-oriented Thrash metal, thrash sound later made famous by bands such as Pantera and Machine Head (band), Machine Head, and their music has been regarded as a large influence on the Music of New Orleans#Heavy metal, New Orleans metal scene. Initially active from 1985 to 1994 and reformed from 2008 to 2011, Exhorder has since reformed in 2017. To date, the band has released four studio albums: ''Slaughter in the Vatican'' (1990), ''The Law (Exhorder album), The Law'' (1992), ''Mourn the Southern Skies'' (2019) and ''Defectum Omnium'' (2024). ''Slaughter in the Vatican'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Exhorder, released in 1990 by R/C Records. It was reissued by Roadrunner in 2003 in a double-disc package with the band's follow-up album '' The Law'' and reissued again in 2008. The album saw the band compared with Pantera, with AllMusic commenting on its "death metal-style double kick drums, chugging guitar riffs played at both slow and blistering tempos, and, to top it all off, the gruff but very expressive lead vocals of frontman Kyle Thomas". Overkill (band)
Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist D.D. Verni and lead vocalist Bobby Ellsworth, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth as the only remaining original members. The band's current lineup includes Verni, Ellsworth, Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Derek "The Skull" Tailer on rhythm guitar, and Jeramie Kling as a touring drummer. Along with Nuclear Assault and Anthrax (American band), Anthrax, the latter of whom would feature one-time Overkill lead guitarist Dan Spitz, the band is one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands, and they are often called "the Motörhead of thrash metal", due to their unique playing style, which was influenced by punk rock and the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM). Hatchet (band)
Hatchet is an American thrash metal band from San Francisco, California, formed in January 2005 by guitarist and vocalist Julz Ramos, the band's only remaining original member. To date, they have released four studio albums, two demos and two EPs, and are now notable for being part of the thrash metal revival movement in the late 2000s. Influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal and Bay Area thrash metal scenes of the 1980s, Hatchet's music has been described as "old-school thrash metal". Krisiun is a Brazilian death metal band, founded by brothers Alex Camargo (bass, vocals) (Born March 11, 1972), Moyses Kolesne (guitars) (Born August 11, 1973) and Max Kolesne (drums) (Born June 12, 1974). Since its formation in 1990, the group recorded three Demo (music), demos, ''Curse of the Evil One'' in 1990, ''Mortal Toxic'' in 1991, and ''The Plague'' in 1992, and self-released an extended play (EP) titled ''Unmerciful Order'' in 1993. Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. As of 2024, they have released fifteen studio albums, two EPs, and two DVDs. Kataklysm received their first Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, Grammy) for Best Album of the Year in the "Heavy Metal" category for their 2015 album ''Of Ghosts and Gods''. Maryland Deathfest
Maryland Deathfest (often abbreviated to MDF) is an annual American extreme metal music festival founded in 2003 by Ryan Taylor and Evan Harting. The festival is held in Baltimore, Maryland during Memorial Day weekend, and it features many bands from around the world that vary from a wide range of heavy metal subgenres. It is the biggest event of its kind in North America, attracting attendees from more than 40 U.S. states and 25 countries every year. More than 800 bands from more than 40 countries have played at MDF since 2003. The concept of the event is "To bring to the world the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Crowbar (American Band)
Crowbar is an American sludge metal band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1990. The band is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, Crowbar's sole constant member. Infusing a slow, brooding doom metal sound with the aggression of hardcore punk, Crowbar along with other bands in the New Orleans heavy metal scene pioneered a style known as sludge metal, though Windstein himself has admitted a dislike for the term. Houma ( ) is the largest city in and the parish seat of Terrebonne Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
