The İzmir Metro () is a Medium-capacity rail system, light metro system serving the city of İzmir, Turkey. The current system, consisting of M1 (İzmir Metro), one line, starts from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the southwestern portion of the metropolitan area and runs towards northeast to end at Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka-3 in Bornova. İzmir's metro line is long, and serves 24 stations as of 4 March 2024. Overview By 1990, it was thought that the existing public transport system in Izmir could no longer support the growing population. A plan was thought of to build a rapid transit network by rail to cope with this. A contract was signed in 1993, and the handover was in 1994. Construction had begun in 1995 and it was completed successfully in around 4 years. In May 2000, the system came into public service. Bornova
Bornova is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of İzmir Province, Turkey. Its area is 220 km2, and its population is 454,470 (2022). It is the third largest district in İzmir's metropolitan area and is almost fully urbanized at the rate of 98.6 percent, with correspondingly high levels of development in terms of industries and services. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). ESHOT
Elektrik Su Havagazı Otobüs Troleybüs () or ESHOT is a bus service operating in the İzmir. ESHOT, along with İZULAŞ are the two main bus transit services in İzmir. Buses serve all districts, however, denser network presence attained in the central area. ESHOT is owned by the İzmir Municipality (İBB). History Before ESHOT was formed, all of İzmir's public services were operated by several companies. ESHOT Genel Müdürlüğü was formed on July 27, 1943, to take over the İzmir Tram and Electric Company. This company operated all trams, trolleybuses and electric facilities in the city. M1 (Ä°zmir Metro)
The M1, also known as the Narlıdere Kaymakamlık–Evka 3 Line (), is the only active line of the İzmir Metro in İzmir, İzmir, Turkey. The line runs from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık (İzmir Metro), Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the west to Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka 3 station in the east, consisting of 24 stations. Construction of the first stage of line began in 1992 and was completed in 2000, consisting of 10 initial stations. Further extensions of the line since 2005 have been plagued by repeated construction delays and re-awarding of Procurement, tenders. An eastern extension in 2012 and two western extensions in 2014 and 2024 added another two, five and seven stations to the line respectively. Ege Ãœniversitesi is an underground station on the M1 Line of the Ä°zmir Metro in Bornova. It is located within the campus of Ege University near the site of the former Ege Ãœniversitesi railway station. The metro station was opened on 20 March 2012 as part of the eastward extension from Bornova to Evka 3. History Ege Ãœniversitesi was originally a station on the Bornova suburban line, built in 1979 by the Turkish State Railways. The site of this station was located about south of the current station near the university's Science Faculty building. The State Railway operated commuter trains from Basmane station in Konak to Ege University, via central Bornova. Fahrettin Altay (Ä°zmir Metro)
Fahrettin Altay is an underground station of the İzmir Metro's only operating line, the M1. Located under Fahrettin Altay square, the station has two side platforms servicing two tracks. The station was opened on 26 July 2014, after 9 years of delayed construction. The station was a terminal station from 2014 to 2024, until line extended to Narlıdere. The station offers connections to regional buses to Çeşme, Urla, Seferihisar and Karaburun, which depart from a terminal within walking distance to Fahrettin Altay square.
