Everything You Know Is Wrong
''Everything You Know Is Wrong'' is the eighth comedy album by the Firesign Theatre. Released in October 1974 on Columbia Records, it satirizes UFO conspiracy theories and New Age paranormal beliefs such as Erich von Däniken's '' Chariots of the Gods'' and claimed psychic Uri Geller, which achieved wide public attention by that time. Characters The four main characters are pictured on the album cover: *"Happy" Harry Cox ( Phil Austin) — narrator of the album; purveyor of New Age fringe theories. Cox calls his followers "Seekers" and runs a recording studio he calls "Nude Age Enterprises" from his mobile home in a nudist trailer park located in the fictional town of Hellmouth, California (surrounded by the towns of Hooker and Heater). The Firesign Theatre
The Firesign Theatre (also known as the Firesigns) was an American surreal comedy troupe who first appeared on November 17, 1966, in a live performance on the Los Angeles radio program ''Radio Free Oz'' on station KPFK FM. They continued appearing on ''Radio Free Oz'', which later moved to KRLA 1110 AM and then KMET FM, through February 1969. They produced fifteen record albums and a 45 rpm single under contract to Columbia Records from 1967 through 1976, and had three nationally syndicated radio programs: ''The Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour'' in 1970 on KPPC-FM; and '' Dear Friends'' (1970–1971) and ''Let's Eat!'' (1971–1972) on KPFK. Uri Geller
Uri Geller ( ; ; born 20 December 1946) is an Israeli-British illusionist, magician, television personality, and self-proclaimed psychic. He is known for his trademark television performances of spoon bending and other illusions. Geller uses conjuring tricks to simulate the effects of psychokinesis and telepathy. Richard Strauss
Richard Georg Strauss (; ; 11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was a German composer and conductor best known for his Tone poems (Strauss), tone poems and List of operas by Richard Strauss, operas. LP Album
The LP (from long playing or long play) is an analog sound storage medium, specifically a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia Records in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire US record industry and, apart from a few relatively minor refinements and the important later addition of stereophonic sound in 1957, it remained the standard format for record albums during a period in popular music known as the album era. LP was originally a trademark of Columbia and competed against the smaller 7-inch sized "45" or "single" format by RCA Victor, eventually ending up on top. Philip Proctor
Philip George Proctor (born July 28, 1940) is an American actor and a member of the Firesign Theatre. He has performed voice-over work for video games, films and television series. Early life Proctor was born in Goshen, Indiana, on July 28, 1940. His great-uncle was Mennonite writer Joseph Yoder. Four years later after his family moved to New York City, he was a child actor working in television. He later earned a drama degree at Yale University. Career Proctor won a Theatre World Award for his 1964 performance in '' The Amorous Flea''. Proctor also appeared occasionally on television in small roles, including episodes of ''Daniel Boone'', ''All in the Family'', and ''Night Court''. David Ossman
David Ossman (born December 6, 1936, in Santa Monica) is an American writer and comedian, best known as a member of the Firesign Theatre and screenwriter of such films as '' Zachariah''. Early life Ossman attended Pomona College, where he starred in productions including ''The Crucible'' and ''Fumed Oak''. He transferred to Columbia University. Career Ossman's roles during his Firesign years include George Leroy ("Peorgie") Tirebiter on '' Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers'' and Catherwood in the " Nick Danger" series. In 1973, he recorded the solo album '' How Time Flys''. During the 1980s, he left the Firesign Theatre, primarily to produce programs for National Public Radio. Peter Bergman (comedian)
Peter Paul Bergman (November 29, 1939 – March 9, 2012) was an American comedian and writer, best known as the founder of the Firesign Theatre. He played Lt. Bradshaw in the Nick Danger series. Biography Bergman was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated in 1957 from Shaker Heights High School in the Cleveland suburb. He studied economics at Yale University, where he contributed to the campus humor magazine '' The Yale Record''. He taught economics as a Carnegie Fellow, and also attended the Yale School of Drama as a Eugene O'Neill Playwriting Fellow, and wrote two musicals for the Yale Dramatic Association with Austin Pendleton, where he met acting student Philip Proctor. He was also a Woodrow Wilson Scholar. After college he worked with Tom Stoppard, Derek Marlowe, Piers Paul Read, and Spike Milligan. Trailer Park
A trailer park, caravan park, mobile home park, mobile home community or manufactured home community is a temporary or permanent area for mobile homes and travel trailers. Naturism
