Everett S. Sherman
Everett S. Sherman (1831-1897) was a covered bridge builder in Ohio. He lived and built bridges in Delaware County then moved to Preble County after a storm destroyed many of its bridges. He revived a technology of Childs truss bridges, of which only a handful of examples—perhaps only seven according to a 2003 report—survive in the United States. The Childs truss was patented by Horace Childs in 1846. It never became popular, but, after its patent expired, was adopted by Sherman for bridges in Ohio late in the 1800s. Sherman adapted the Childs design to vary the size of beams according to loads carried by them, rather than using uniform beams. A number of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Geeting Covered Bridge
The Geeting Covered Bridge, also known as Geeting Bridge, is a historic covered bridge crossing Price's Creek on Price Road west of Lewisburg, Ohio, United States. It was built in 1894 by Everett S. Sherman, one of at least 20 covered bridges built by Sherman in Preble County, Ohio. The abutments were built by the Koppee Brothers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It is a bridge with 7 feet additional overhang. Fairhaven is an unincorporated community in eastern Israel Township, Preble County, Ohio, United States. It lies along State Route 177 at its intersection with Israel-Somers Road. Four Mile Creek, which feeds into Acton Lake in southern Preble County, runs on the western edge of Fairhaven. It is located 10½ miles (17 kilometers) southwest of Eaton, the county seat of Preble County. The community is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisburg, Ohio
Lewisburg is a village in Preble County, Ohio, United States, founded in 1818. The current village incorporates two prior villages, the original Lewisburg and Euphemia, which merged in 1916. The population was 1,820 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Lewisburg was founded soon after Harrison Township was organized in 1816. In 1833, Lewisburg contained one Lutheran church, four stores, two taverns, two physicians, one botanical practitioner, two merchant mills, forty dwelling houses, and about 200 inhabitants. The community was named for Lewisburg, Virginia (now in West Virginia). In about 1836, pioneer John Mumma founded the community of Euphemia, named for his wife, to the north of Lewisburg on the National Road. Eaton is a city in, and the county seat of Preble County, Ohio, United States, approximately 24 mi (38 km) west of Dayton. The population was 8,375 at the 2020 census, down 0.4% from the population of 8,407 at the 2010 census. Eaton's sister city is Rödental bei Coburg (Germany).
