Everett Evans (bassist)
Edward Everett Evans (November 30, 1893 – December 2, 1958) was an American science fiction writer and fan. He married science-fiction author Thelma D. Hamm in 1953. His works include the novels '' Man of Many Minds'' (1953), ''The Planet Mappers'' (1955), and ''Alien Minds'' (1955). Additionally, a collaboration with E. E. "Doc" Smith (''Masters of Space'', 1976) and a collection (''Food For Demons'', 1971) were published posthumously. All of the novels have become public domain. Big Heart Award In 1959 the ''E. Everett Evans "Big Heart" Award'' was started in honor of Evans. The award was administered by Forrest J Ackerman until 2000 when David Kyle took over. The award was renamed in 2006 to the ''Forrest J Ackerman Big Heart Award'', and then renamed again in 2018 to the ''David A. Kyle Big Heart Award''. Coldwater, Michigan
Coldwater is a city in and county seat of Branch County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city had a population of 13,822 at the 2020 census. The city is mostly surrounded by Coldwater Township, but the two are administered autonomously. History American settlers first moved into the area around 1830, with many arriving from New York and New England. Coldwater was incorporated as a village in 1837, and then incorporated by the legislature as a city in 1861. It was designated in 1842 as the county seat of Branch County. Geography The Coldwater River flows into the city from the south, originating from Coldwater Lake. The Coldwater chain of lakes also has an outlet called the Sauk River, which flows from its north end (near Quincy) and then through the south side of the city of Coldwater. Erwin Strauss
Erwin S. Strauss is an American author, science fiction fan, noted member of the MITSFS, and filk musician, born in Washington, D.C. He frequently is known by the nickname "Filthy Pierre". He was injured descending a stairway at SMOFcon 41in December 2023, and in January 2024 announced his retirement. Science fiction and writing Strauss has been chairman of a number of science fiction conventions, such as Boskone 3 in 1966 and RailCon in 1975; and a member of the committee for at least one Worldcon, Noreascon 3, in 1989. He was an early (1964) vice president of the MIT Science Fiction Society. In addition, he was the author of the monthly "SF Convention Calendar" in '' Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction'' magazine until the March 2024 issue, and his flyer racks ("Filthy boards") were seen at conventions all over the East Coast. Dodd, Mead and Company was one of the pioneer publishing houses of the United States, based in New York City. Under several names, the firm operated from 1839 until 1990. Fantasy Press was an American publishing house specialising in fantasy and science fiction titles. Established in 1946 by Lloyd Arthur Eshbach in Reading, Pennsylvania, it was most notable for publishing the works of authors such as Robert A. Heinlein and E. E. Smith. One of its more notable offerings was the Lensman series. Among its books was '' Of Worlds Beyond: The Science of Science Fiction Writing'' (1947), which was the first book about modern SF and contained essays by John W. Campbell, Jr., Robert A.
