Euskadi (Continental Cycling Team)
Euskadi () was a Spanish cycling team based in the Basque Country that existed from 2005 to 2014. It was one of the European teams in UCI Continental Tour. The team functioned as the development team of the original and the unofficial "national" squad of the Basque region. Orbea's team manager Álvaro González de Galdeano is the older brother of Igor González de Galdeano, the last manager of Euskaltel. The team focused primarily on young riders, of whom the most successful usually made the transfer to Euskaltel–Euskadi. Sponsorship The main sponsor Orbea is a bicycle manufacturer based in Mallabia. Throughout cycling history, Orbea has sponsored numerous cycling teams. Álvaro González De Galdeano
Álvaro González de Galdeano Aranzábal (born 3 January 1970) is a Spanish former professional cyclist. He was the manager of the cycling team until it disbanded in 2013. He is the brother of Igor González de Galdeano. Career Galdeano began his career as a professional cyclist in 1992 with the Spanish team . He competed in the team time trial at the 1992 Summer Olympics. In 1995, he joined with his brother Igor. The two brothers then stayed together and went to teams and . He had his best season in 2000, when he won the Spanish National Road Race Championships, and a stage of the Vuelta a España and Giro d'Italia. Vuelta Asturias is a professional cycle road race held in Spain in early May each year. The event was first run in 1925 but has not been held consistently until 1968 to present. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. On 25 April 2014, the Vuelta Asturias was suspended one week before its start due to the lack of funds and sponsors. Jonathan Castroviejo Nicolás (born 27 April 1987) is a Spanish professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in Getxo, Basque Country, Spain, Castroviejo spent two seasons with the feeder team of the de facto Basque national squad Orbea, before he joined in 2010. He won his first race as a professional at the 2011 Tour de Romandie, clocking the fastest time in the prologue individual time trial, beating reigning under-23 world champion Taylor Phinney by 0.27 seconds. The result came the day before Castroviejo's 24th birthday. His prowess in the time trial was relatively uncommon for a rider, as the team was known for fielding lightweight climbers with little ability against the clock.
