Eurovision Song Contest 1970
The Eurovision Song Contest 1970 was the 15th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (NOS), the contest was held at the on 21 March 1970, and was hosted by Dutch television presenter Willy Dobbe. Twelve countries participated in the contest this year. This was the lowest number of participants since the edition. The reason was that , , , , and all boycotted the 1970 edition, officially because they felt that the contest marginalised smaller countries and was no longer good television entertainment, though it is rumoured that this was also in protest of the four-way tie result that had occurred in 1969.O'Connor, John Kennedy. Willy Dobbe
Willy Dobbe (born 2 January 1944) is a Dutch television announcer and former television presenter. She was the host of the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest and also presented the Dutch national finals for the Eurovision Song Contest 1971, 1971 and 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, 1972 contests. Career Dobbe was born in The Hague and obtained a degree as beautician. In 1967 she joined the broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting and became a television announcer, which she remained for 5 years before moving to the TROS in 1972. In 1970, Dobbe was asked to host the Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam. She maintained her Eurovision connection for two more years, when she hosted the Nationaal Songfestival consecutively in 1971 and 1972. Dobbe also presented programmes such as School TV, WK Allround Dancing, and, most notably, Zevensprong. Jean Vallée
Jean Vallée (born Paul Goeders in Verviers on 2 October 1941 – 12 March 2014, Clermont-sur-Berwinne) was a Belgian songwriter and performer. Vallée was appointed Knight of the Order of the Crown by HM Albert II in 1999. Career In 1967 Vallée represented Belgium in the Festival of Rio, where Jacques Brel was a member of the jury. Eddy Marnay
Edmond Bacri (18 December 1920 – 3 January 2003), known professionally as Eddy Marnay, was a French songwriter. In his career, he wrote more than 4000 songs, including works for Édith Piaf, Frida Boccara and Céline Dion. David Alexandre Winter
David Alexandre Winter (born Lion Kleerekoper; 4 April 1943) is a Dutch-born international pop singer. Winter found fame in Luxembourg and France. Early life Winter was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands into a Jewish family. Both he and his parents, Israel Kleerekoper and Magdalena Kleerekoper, née Blocq, were deported to different Nazi concentration camps during the German occupation of the Netherlands. After the end of the war, the family was reunited. Career From 1966 to 1968 Winter was the lead singer for The Hague-based band "Daddy's Act". Lucio Dalla
Lucio Dalla (; 4 March 1943 – 1 March 2012) was an Italian singer-songwriter, musician and actor. He also played clarinet and keyboards. Dalla was the composer of "Caruso (song), Caruso" (1986), a song dedicated to Italian opera tenor Enrico Caruso, and "L'anno che verrà" (1979). Beginnings Dalla was born in Bologna, Italy. He began to play the clarinet at an early age, in a jazz band in Bologna, and became a member of a local jazz band called Rheno Dixieland Band, together with future film director Pupi Avati. Avati said that he decided to leave the band after feeling overwhelmed by Dalla's talent. He also acknowledged that his film, ''Ma quando arrivano le ragazze?'' Sergio Bardotti
Sergio Bardotti (14 February 1939 – 11 April 2007) was an Italian lyricist, composer and record producer. Life and career Born in Pavia, Bardotti studied piano for seven years and graduated from conservatory with a degree in Theory and Solfeggio. After having performed in nightclubs with the stage name Sergio Dotti, he moved to Rome, employed by RCA for his literary branch. His first song as lyricist was "La nostra casa", which was released as B-side of the Gino Paoli's hit " Sapore di sale", launching his musical career. Shortly later Bardotti started a long collaboration with Sergio Endrigo, which among other things got them the winning of the 1968 Sanremo Music Festival with the song " Canzone per te". Gianfranco Baldazzi (28 July 1943 – 25 June 2013) was an Italian lyricist, record producer, author and journalist. Life and career Born in Bologna, Baldazzi started his career as a stage actor. Active from the second half of the 1960s, he wrote songs for Mina, Lucio Dalla, Gianni Morandi, Ornella Vanoni, Peppino di Capri, Ron among others. He was also a producer, and between 1991 and 1994 he was artistic director of the label Pressing. "Occhi di ragazza" ("Girl's eyes") was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1970, performed in Italian by Gianni Morandi. Background The ballad was initially chosen by singer Ron to be presented at the 1970 Sanremo Music Festival, but was rejected by the Selection Jury. Morandi then to led it to success, and the song became a staple of his live repertoire. The song was also important for Lucio Dalla, who had composed the song's music, as its success gave him visibility and propelled his career.
