Europipe I
Europipe I is a natural gas pipeline from the North Sea to Continental Europe. History The feasibility study of the pipeline's project was conducted in 1990. On 20 April 1993, an agreement between Norway and Germany was concluded on the construction of Europipe. The pipeline was commissioned on 1 October 1995 and it cost 21.3 billion NOK. Route The pipeline runs from the Draupner E riser platform in the North Sea to a receiving terminal at Dornum in Germany. At Draupner E, it is connected with Zeepipe and Statpipe/ Norpipe system. From Dornum a land line runs to the metering station in Emden. Technical description The diameter of pipeline is and the capacity is of natural gas. The pipeline is owned by Gassled partners and operated by Gassco. The technical service provider is Statoil. Draupner E Riser Platform
In Norse mythology, Draupnir (Old Norse: , "the dripper"Orchard (1997:34).) is a gold ring possessed by the god Odin with the ability to multiply itself: Every ninth night, eight new rings 'drip' from Draupnir, each one of the same size and weight as the original. Draupnir was forged by the dwarven brothers Brokkr and Eitri (or Sindri). Brokkr and Eitri made this ring as one of a set of three gifts which included Mjöllnir and Gullinbursti. They made these gifts in accordance with a bet Loki made saying that Brokkr and Eitri could not make better gifts than the three made by the Sons of Ivaldi. In the end, Mjöllnir, Thor's hammer, won the contest for Brokkr and Eitri. Loki used a loophole to get out of the wager for his head (the wager was for Loki's head only, but he argued that, to remove his head, they would have to injure his neck, which was not in the bargain) and Brokkr punished him by sealing his lips shut with wire. Europipe II
Europipe II is a natural gas pipeline from the Kårstø processing plant north of Stavanger to a receiving terminal at Dornum in Germany. It came on stream on 1 October 1999. Route It starts from Kårstø processing plant and runs about onshore from Kårstø to Vestre Bokn. From there, the offshore pipeline runs through Norwegian, Danish and German sectors of the North Sea. The German onshore section is long. At Dornum the gas is supplied into the Netra (Norddeutsche Erdgas Transversale) gas pipeline, which runs to Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Salzwedel in eastern Germany.
