European Union Ambassador
Below are current Ambassadors of the European Union to foreign countries and international organisations. They are also known as Heads of Delegation or Envoys. Prior to the Treaty of Lisbon, the EU was represented abroad by the ambassador of the country holding the semestrial EU council presidency, and the European Commission was represented by a Head of Delegation of the Commission, who was a member of the diplomatic corps and given the title of ambassador as a courtesy. Since 2010, the Ambassador of the European Union, now officially accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, is appointed by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, following a proposal by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Małgorzata Wasilewska (born 1960) is a Polish diplomat, human rights activist, and European Union ambassador to Jamaica (2016–2020), Barbados (since 2020) and the Caribbean Community (since 2021). She has been working also for Saferworld as a senior specialist on organizational governance and strategic planning. Piotr Antoni Świtalski (born 2 August 1957, in Kutno) is a Polish diplomat; permanent representative of Poland to the Council of Europe (2005–2010) and ambassador of the European Union to Armenia (2015–2019). Life Świtalski has graduated from Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw and Moscow State Institute of International Relations (1982).
