European Safety And Reliability Association
European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA), according to its charter, ''"is a non-profit international association for the advance and application of safety and reliability technology in all areas of human endeavour. It is an "umbrella" organisation with a membership consisting of: national professional societies, industrial organisations and higher education institutions. The common interest is safety and reliability."'' Its members include various professional associations, companies and educational and research institutions in 22 countries, including the Safety and Reliability Society in the UK, as well as 7 national chapters (for countries with at least 5 direct members). Safety
Safety is the state of being "safe", the condition of being protected from harm or other danger. Safety can also refer to the control of recognized hazards in order to achieve an acceptable level of risk. Meanings There are two slightly different meanings of ''safety''. For example, ''home safety'' may indicate a building's ability to protect against external harm events (such as weather, home invasion, etc.), or may indicate that its internal installations (such as appliances, stairs, etc.) are safe (not dangerous or harmful) for its inhabitants. Discussions of safety often include mention of related terms. Security is such a term. With time the definitions between these two have often become interchanged, equated, and frequently appear juxtaposed in the same sentence. Reliability engineering is a sub-discipline of systems engineering that emphasizes the ability of equipment to function without failure.
