European Dressage Championship
The European Dressage Championships are the European championships for the equestrian discipline of dressage. They are held every two years in odd-numbered years. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded in both individual and team competitions. There are also championships held for juniors, young riders, and ponies. Since 2015, the competition has shared a site and branding with vaulting, reining, jumping, and driving events. For sponsorship reasons, eventing is not included, as it is part of the FEI European Championships, echoing the combined World Equestrian Games concept. The first official combined event took place in Aachen in 2015. History The official European Dressage Championship was first held in 1963. Uwe Schulten-Baumer
Uwe Schulten-Baumer (14 January 1926 – 28 October 2014), nicknamed "Der Doktor" (The Doctor), was a German show jumping and dressage rider who became an internationally famous dressage trainer and coach who worked with Nicole Uphoff and Isabell Werth, who won 4 and 5, respectively, Olympic gold medals in individual and team dressage. Early life Schulten-Baumer was born in Kettwig, Essen, Germany. The son of a farmer, he became interested in horses early in life. He helped groom horses at a riding academy across from his school, later he learned to ride there. During his military service he was in the navy, and on Saturdays he would ride the commander's horses. Ivan Kalita (equestrian)
Ivan Aleksandrovich Kalita (; 14 January 1927 – 29 March 1996) was a Soviet equestrian and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in team dressage at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Kalita was the oldest Olympic participant from USSR (49 years and 197 days during 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal). Elena Petushkova
Yelena Vladimirovna Petushkova (; 17 November 1940 – 8 January 2007) was a Soviet and Russian equestrian who won three medals, of which one was gold and two silver in dressage during the Summer Olympics. Biography Petushkova became a member of the USSR National Team in 1964 and competed for it until 1987. In the 1968 Summer Olympics she won her first silver medal, finishing in second place in the team dressage event alongside Ivan Kalita and Ivan Kizimov. Four years later, in the 1972 Summer Olympics she and her teammates who were again Kalita and Kizimov improved their performance and won the gold medal. Josef Neckermann
Josef Carl Peter Neckermann (5 June 1912 – 13 January 1992) was a German equestrian and Olympic champion. He won Olympic medals at four different Olympics, in 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1972. Later Neckermann became a member of the West German National Olympic Committee. He was also the founder and owner of the German mail order company Neckermann AG in 1938. Biography He benefited greatly from the Nazi forced hostile takeover of Jewish businesses, including the 1938 acquisition of Karl Amson Joel's retail business in Berlin. For that, shortly after World War II, Neckermann was sentenced to one year in a military prison.
