Grace Knight
Grace Ethel Knight (born 23 December 1955) is an English-born Australian vocalist and songwriter. During the 1980s she was a mainstay of pop group Eurogliders which formed in Perth, Western Australia. Knight later became a solo jazz singer and musician based in Sydney. In 1984, Eurogliders released an Australian top ten album, '' This Island'', NOTE: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting from 1970 until ARIA created their own charts in mid-1988. which spawned their No. 2 hit single, " Heaven (Must Be There)". Amanda Villepastour
Amanda Villepastour (; born 20 January 1958) is an Australian ethnomusicologist and former professional musician. She is best known for being the keyboardist of the Australian new wave band Eurogliders between 1980 and 1987, and for her 21st-century research work and publications on Yorùbá music in Nigeria, and Afro-Cuban religious (Santería) music in Cuba. Early life and education Villepastour was born in Perth, Western Australia. She attended Methodist Ladies' College, in the Perth suburb of Claremont. In the early 1970s, at the age of 14, she started playing music professionally. Between 1974 and 1976, she was the piano and accordion player, and a backing vocalist, in a jug band, Duck Soup. In an interview with ''Afropop Worldwide'' published in 2016, she said that Duck Soup had been "a Chicago blues band in Perth". This Island (Eurogliders Album)
''This Island'' is the second studio album by Australian pop band Eurogliders, released on 7 May 1984 by CBS Records. The album had a lengthy recording process. Eurogliders changed record labels from PolyGram to CBS in 1983, and recorded the track "No Action" with producer Mark Opitz; it was released as a single in 1983 and peaked at No. 97. The band then replaced bassist Geoff Rosenberg (who had not played on "No Action") with Scott Saunders, and travelled to the UK in July. While there, they replaced Saunders with bassist Ron François, formerly of the Teardrop Explodes and Lene Lovich. With this line-up they recorded the rest of ''This Island'', produced by Nigel Gray (who had also worked with the Police). By the end of the year, the album recording was complete, but was still not ready for release. Rex Goh
Goh Tee Huat, known professionally as Rex Goh, (born 5 May 1951) is a Singaporean-born Australian rock guitarist. In 1972 Goh moved to Australia. He has been a band member of various groups including Air Supply (1977, 1981–83), QED (1983–85), and Eurogliders (1988–89, 2005). Goh has also toured and recorded as a session guitarist with Savage Garden, Randy Crawford, Tom Jones, Guy Sebastian and Daryl Braithwaite. As a producer Goh has worked on albums for Tania Bowra, The Robertson Brothers and Rene Diaz. Biography Rex Goh was born as Goh Tee Huat on 5 May 1951 in Singapore and grew up in Aljunied and Toa Payoh. "Heaven (Must Be There)" (sometimes shortened to just "Heaven") is a song by the Australian pop and new wave band Eurogliders from their album '' This Island''. The song was released on 7" and 12" vinyl in May 1984. The single brought the band to fame, especially in Australia, where it peaked at No. 2 on the Kent Music Report The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. Ron François
Ron François (born April 1958) is a British musician, who first came to notice as the lead singer and bass player of the English R&B band The Strutters, which was involved in the London pub rock scene of the mid-1970s. In 1978, he recorded the debut album '' Stateless'' with the Lene Lovich band, from which came the UK hit single "Lucky Number". He then toured with the Lene Lovich band on the Stiff Records "Be Stiff Route 78 Tour" of the UK and New York. From 1978 to 1981, François worked with ex-Strutters Mark Kjeldsen and Bobbi (Irwin) Trehern in the Sinceros, who made two albums for Epic Records, '' The Sound of Sunbathing'' and '' Pet Rock'', and achieved moderate success before they disbanded in 1981. François continued playing sessions while remaining with Epic Records, releasing a solo single, "If You Love Me", before joining the Teardrop Explodes for their '' Wilder'' album tour of the UK, Europe, Australia and the US. The Australian Rock Database was a website with a searchable online database that listed details of Australian rock music artists, albums, bands, producers and record labels. It was established in 2000 by Swedish national Magnus Holmgren, who had developed an interest in Australian music when visiting as an exchange student. Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top 40 Singles from 1966, and albums chart from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations.
