Eurobasket 1937
The 1937 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1937, was the second FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Eight national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) took part in the competition. Defending champions Latvia hosted the tournament, held in Riga. Results First round The preliminary round consisted of the eight teams being separated into two groups of four. Each group played a round-robin format tournament, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinals and the bottom two playing in the lower classification matches. Wins counted for 2 points, losses for 1 point. Zenonas Puzinauskas
Zenonas Puzinauskas (March 4, 1920 – July 16, 1995) was a Lithuanians, Lithuanian basketball player. He won two gold medals with the Lithuania men's national basketball team, Lithuania national basketball team during EuroBasket 1937 and EuroBasket 1939. Biography Zenonas was born in Kaunas. He graduated from Kaunas JÄ—zuitai Gymnasium and from Vytautas Magnus University. In 1935, he started to play basketball for the Kaunas "Grandies" club. He played for the Lithuanian national basketball team twice (EuroBasket 1937, 1937, EuroBasket 1939, 1939) and became EuroBasket, Europe champion both times. Aside from being the youngest player on the team, he was also a scholar athlete. In 1944 he moved to Austria and later to Germany. Eugenijus Nikolskis (24 November 1917 – 26 October 1992) was a Lithuanian basketball and table tennis player. He won two gold medals with the Lithuania national basketball team during EuroBasket 1937 and EuroBasket 1939. Biography During World War I his parents moved to Russian Empire where Nikolskis was born. In 1922 he returned to Lithuania and attended Kaunas JÄ—zuitai Gymnasium, which he graduated in 1936.
