Entiminae
The Entiminae are a large subfamily in the weevil family Curculionidae, containing most of the short-nosed weevils, including such genera as '' Entimus'', '' Otiorhynchus'', '' Phyllobius'', '' Sitona'', and '' Pachyrrhynchus''. In comparison with their stunning diversity, only a few of these weevils are notorious pests of major economic importance. Entimines are commonly encountered in the field, including urban environments, and abundant in entomological collections. Diversity There are over 12000 described species worldwide, distributed in over 1370 genera, nearly 14000 by more recent counts. Most tribes are represented in only one biogeographic region of the world. The current classification within the subfamily has been recognized as artificial rather than reflecting natural groups. General morphology Besides the shape of their broad and short rostrum, most entimines are easily recognized by the presence of a mandibular scar that appears when a deciduous process falls ... Gymnopholus
''Gymnopholus'' is a genus of beetles in the family Curculionidae (true weevils) occurring in New Guinea. Many of them are notable for the growth of algae, diatoms, fungi, lichens and moss Mosses are small, non-vascular flowerless plants in the taxonomic division Bryophyta (, ) '' sensu stricto''. Bryophyta ('' sensu lato'', Schimp. 1879) may also refer to the parent group bryophytes, which comprise liverworts, mosses, and ...es on their backs(especially the subgenus ''Symbiopholus''). The genus is divided into two subgenera (''Gymnopholus'' and ''Symbiopholus'') and contains the following species: References Entiminae Taxonomy articles created by Polbot Curculionidae genera {{Entiminae-stub ... Eupholus Azureus
''Eupholus azureus'' is a species of beetles belonging to the family Curculionidae. Description ''Eupholus azureus'' can reach a length of about . The elytra are broader than the thorax at the base and pointed at the apex. There are nine rows of large regular deep punctures on each elytron. The scutellum is very small and round. Eupholus azureus is slightly mottled black. The turquoise colour derives from very small scales.Denis Llewellyn Fox Animal Biochromes and Structural Colours/ref> The thorax shows two smooth black lines on each sides of the median sulcus. Usually there are one or two transverse bands (one is larger) a little behind the middle and not reaching the suture. The suture, the scutellar region and the transverse bands are black. Legs are azure and the knee joins are black. Antennae are partially covered with tiny whitish sensory hair, while the club is brown or black. Eupholus
''Eupholus'' is a genus of beetle in the family Curculionidae. The genus includes some of the most colourful of the weevils. The colour may serve as a warning to predators that they are distasteful. Most species feed upon yam leaves, some of which are toxic to other animals. The species occur in New Guinea and adjacent islands. This genus was described by French entomologist Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Dechauffour de Boisduval in 1835. List of the described species * '' Eupholus albofasciatus'' Heller, 1910 * '' Eupholus alternans'' Kirsch, 1877 * '' Eupholus amaliae'' Gestro, 1875 * '' Eupholus amalulu'' Porion, 1993 * '' Eupholus antonkozlovi'' Porion & Audibert, 2019 * '' Eupholus astrolabensis'' Heller, 1937 * ''Eupholus azureus'' MacLeay, 1885 * '' Eupholus beccari'' Gestro, 1875 * '' Eupholus bennetti'' Gestro, 1876 * '' Eupholus bennigseni'' Heller, 1908 * '' Eupholus bhaskarai'' Grasso, 2020 * '' Eupholus bortolussii'' Grasso, 2019 * '' Eupholus brossardi' ...
