Eupetale Trichoa
''Eupetale'' is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It contains two species known from South America. The original name used for this genus was ''Lycaste'' Gistel, 1848, which was later found to be an unnecessary new replacement name for '' Chalcophana''. Additionally, ''Lycaste'' Gistel, 1848 is a junior homonym of ''Lycaste'' Gistel, 1834 in Buprestidae (a synonym of '' Polycesta''), and ''Lycaste'' Agassiz, 1846 in Crustacea (an emendation of ''Lycesta'' Savigny, 1816, which is a synonym of '' Leucothoe''). In 2021, Flowers proposed a new name for the genus, ''Eupetale'', for the two species formerly placed in ''Lycaste'' Gistel, 1848. Under the name ''Lycaste'', '' Callicolaspis'' was formerly considered a synonym of the genus, but in 2003 ''Callicolaspis'' was restored as a separate genus. ''Lycaste'', abbreviated as Lyc. in horticultural trade, is a genus of orchids that contains about 30 species with egg-shaped pseudobulbs and thin, plicate (pleated) leaves. Description ''Lycaste'' flowers, like all orchid blooms, have three petals and three sepals. The petals are typically yellow, white, or orange, and the sepals are yellow, orange, green, or reddish brown. The petals and sepals may be marked sparsely or densely with red, reddish purple, purple, or reddish brown spots. The lip (ventral petal) may be very similar to the other two petals, as in '' Lycaste aromatica'' or '' Lycaste brevispatha'', or colored quite distinctively, as in several subspecies and varieties of '' Lycaste macrophylla''. ''Callicolaspis'' is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is known from South America. It was formerly considered a synonym of ''Lycaste'' Gistel, 1848, but in 2003 it was restored as a separate genus. Martin Jacoby
Martin Jacoby (12 April 1842, Altona, Hamburg, Altona, Duchy of Holstein – 24 December 1907, London) was a German entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera, especially Chrysomelidae (formerly known as Phytophaga). He was also a musician who played in the orchestra of the Royal Italian Opera in London, and later became a violin tutor. Jacoby was born in Altona, Hamburg, Altona near Hamburg and grew up near the port. He later became a leather merchant but his interest was in music and natural history. He studied violin and at the age of twenty he gave up his leather business and moved to England to join Sir Charles Hallé's orchestra in Manchester. He also began to collect insects and birds even before leaving Germany. He was in touch with many German entomological collectors like Thörey, Koltze, and Gräser. Johannes von Nepomuk Franz Xaver Gistel [Gistl] (11 August 1809 – 9 March 1873) was a German naturalist. He worked at the Museum of Natural History in Regensburg, and wrote on a range of topics under the pseudonyms Garduus and G. Tilesius (an anagram). His contributions to entomology include descriptions of species, with many new names he proposed now mostly relegated to synonymy. Gistel's father Franz Xaver Gistl (1783–1815) worked at a royal riding school and died in 1813. Gistel was raised by his mother, Maria Anna Gistl (née Hahn, born 1772) and his older sister Katharina Leonora (born 1808). School records indicate that his original name was Lorenz Gistl. He was educated in schools in Rempart and Schönfeld before joining the royal gymnasium in Munich in 1822. His degrees in medicine and philosophy appear to be fake.
