Eugène Lepoittevin
Eugène Lepoittevin (31 July 1806 – 6 August 1870), also known as Poidevin, Poitevin, and Le Poittevin, was a French artist who achieved an early and lifelong success as a landscape and maritime painter. His work ranged from erotic caricatures to massive battle scenes. His works are in the collections of many museums throughout France. He made many paintings set in and around the fishing village of Étretat, and in 2020 he was the subject of an exhibition and book, ''L'invention d'Étretat: Eugène Le Poittevin, un peintre et ses amis à l'aube de l'impressionnisme'' (The invention of Étretat: Eugène Le Poittevin, a painter and his friends at the dawn of Impressionism). Family and personal life Eugène Lepoittevin was born as Eugène Modeste Edmond Poidevin on 31 July 1806 in Paris. Charles Baugniet
Charles-Louis Baugniet (; 27 February 1814 – 5 July 1886) was a Belgian painter, lithographer and aquarelle, aquarellist. His name remains attached to the lithographing of portraits of famous and lesser-known figures from Belgium, France and England. They are politicians, senior officials, prominent clergy, both from the Roman Catholic and Anglican Church, industrialists, professors, artists, musicians, actors, and people from the vaudeville world. Biography He was born in Brussels and attended the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels during 1827–29, where he studied under Joseph Paelinck and Florent Joseph Marie Willems, Florent Willems. His first attempts lithography date from 1827, and his reputation grew steadily with the appearance of his first portraits in the magazine ''L'Artiste'' in 1833. ''Gil Blas'' (or ''Le Gil Blas'') was a Parisian literary periodical named for Alain-René Lesage's novel '' Gil Blas''. It was founded by the sculptor Augustin-Alexandre Dumont in November 1879. ''Gil Blas'' serialized novels, such as Émile Zola's '' Germinal'' (1884) and (1885), before they appeared in book form. Numerous Guy de Maupassant short stories debuted in ''Gil Blas''. The journal was also known for its opinionated arts and theatre criticism. Contributors included René Blum, Alexandru Bogdan-Pitești, and Abel Hermant. Willem van de Velde the Elder (1610/11 – 13 December 1693) was a Dutch Golden Age seascape painter, who produced many precise drawings of ships and ink paintings of fleets, but later learned to use oil paints like his son. Biography Willem van de Velde, known as the Elder, a marine draughtsman and painter, was born in Leiden, the son of a Flemish skipper, Willem Willemsz. van de Velde, and is commonly said to have been bred to the sea. He married Judith Adriaens van Leeuwen in Leiden in 1631. His three known legitimate children were named Magdalena, born 1632; Willem, known as the Younger, also a marine painter, born 1633 in Leiden; and Adriaen, a landscape painter, baptized in 1636 in Amsterdam. Paul Potter
Paulus Potter (; 20 November 1625 (baptised) – 17 January 1654 (buried)) was a Dutch painter who specialized in animals within landscapes, usually with a low vantage point. Before Potter died of tuberculosis at the age of 28 he succeeded in producing about 100 paintings, working continuously. Life Paulus Potter was born in Enkhuizen. He was baptized on 20 November 1625.
