Eugene M. "Gene" Moore (July 19, 1942 – June 14, 2016) was a politician who served both as Cook County recorder of deeds and as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. Early life Moore was born July 19, 1942 in Baltzer, Mississippi, the son of Sara Ella Burrell and Joseph Moore. When Moore was a young child, his family moved to Maywood, Illinois. Moore would from then on be a lifelong resident of Maywood. Moore attended Maywood's Washington Elementary School. Moore graduated from Proviso East High School. Moore earned a football scholarship to Otero Junior College. However, an injury ended his football career at Otero, and he returned to Maywood. A family member, after Moore's death, would share their belief that Moore had left Otero Junior College mostly due to feeling homesick and desiring to return to his high school sweetheart, who he would eventually marry. Eugene Moore, Sr. (November 10, 1886 – August 31, 1938), nicknamed "Blue Goose", was a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1909–1910) and Cincinnati Reds (1912). Moore was born in Lancaster, Texas. His son, Gene Jr, was an All-Star outfielder who played for seven major league teams from 1931 through 1945. In a three-season career, Moore posted a 2–2 record with 17 strikeouts and a 4.76 ERA in 34.0 innings pitched. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves (baseball), Boston Bees / Braves, Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators (1901–60), Washington Senators, and St. Louis Browns between 1931 and 1945. Eugene Wilbert Moore (born July 29, 1945) is an American former professional basketball player from St. Louis, Missouri. He played college basketball for Saint Louis. A 6'9" center from Saint Louis University, Moore was selected in the second round of the 1968 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and by the Kentucky Colonels in the American Basketball Association draft. Moore played in the American Basketball Association from 1968 through 1970 for the Kentucky Colonels, and spent the 1970–71 season with the Texas Chaparrals. After playing for the New York Nets during the 1971–72 season, Moore was selected by the expansion San Diego Conquistadors in the 1972 expansion draft and played two seasons with that team before finishing his ABA career with the Spirits of St. Louis during the 1974–75 season.
