Eugene G. Fubini Award
The Eugene G. Fubini Award is an award by the Defense Science Board, named after Eugene Fubini, Eugene G. Fubini, on an annual basis to recognize an individual from the private sector who has made highly significant contributions to the Department of Defense in an advisory capacity over a sustained period of time. Also in honor of Dr. Fubini, the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) presents a different Fubini Award recognizing the NDIA C4ISTAR, C4ISR Person of the Year. Nominations Service Secretaries, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the General Staff of the Secretary of Defense, and the members and former members of DoD Advisory Boards and Committees may submit candidates for consideration for this award. The Defense Science Board (DSB) is a committee of civilian experts appointed to advise the U.S. Department of Defense on Science, scientific and technical matters. It was established in 1956 on the recommendation of the second Hoover Commission. Robert Everett (computer Science)
Robert Rivers Everett (June 26, 1921 – August 15, 2018) was an American computer scientist. He was an honorary board member of the MITRE Corporation. He was born in Yonkers, New York. In 1945 he worked with Jay Forrester on the Whirlwind project, one of the first real time electronic computers. In 1958 he was a founding member of the MITRE Corporation, and was its president from 1969 to 1986. In 1983 he received the Medal for Distinguished Public Service from the Department of Defense and in 1989 he received the National Medal of Technology. General Larry D. Welch (born June 9, 1934) is a retired United States Air Force four-star general who served as the 12th Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. Norman (Norm) Ralph Augustine (born July 27, 1935) is a U.S. aerospace businessman who served as United States Under Secretary of the Army from 1975 to 1977. The Defense Business Board was established in 2001 as a complement to broader transformation efforts in the Department of Defense from an overly burdensome bureaucracy to a more streamlined, effective organization. The Board consists of approximately twenty private sector executives with experience in business management. Eugene Fubini
Eugene Ghiron Fubini (April 19, 1913 - August 5, 1997) was a physicist, academic, and scholar who participated in research that led to the creation of the first atomic bomb and also served as United States Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations. He is well known as adefense policy maker of the Cold War and was the principal manager of the Pentagon's $7 billion annual research and development programs. He later served as group Vice president and chief scientist at International Business Machines Corporation from 1965 to 1969.
