''Eucalyptus gillii'', known as the curly mallee, Arkaroola mallee, or silver mallee, is a species of mallee or small tree that is endemic to inland Australia. It has smooth bark, sometimes with rough bark near the base, often only juvenile, usually glaucous leaves in the crown, flower buds in groups of between seven and eleven, pale yellow flowers and barrel-shaped or shortened spherical fruit. Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park
The Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park is a protected area in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, immediately south-west of and adjacent to the Arkaroola Protection Area. They encompass some of the most rugged and spectacular country in South Australia. Geography The central ranges are of a different topographical nature to the rest of the Flinders, being composed of roughly flat-lying strata, creating a high plateau into which spectacular gorges have been cut, instead of the buckled and folded strata further south which lead to the ubiquitous cuestas of Wilpena Pound. Walter Gill
Walter Gill FLS (13 October 1851 – 17 July 1929) was a forestry administrator in South Australia. History Gill was born in Northamptonshire, England, a son Rev. Walter Gill, Independent minister in Parkstone, Dorset, England. He was employed in the banking business from 1869 to 1876, when he emigrated to South Australia. He joined the South Australian Public Service in August 1884 as sub-inspector of credit selections, then in 1886 was appointed chief forester at Wirrabara. In 1890 he was promoted to Conservator of Forests, which he retained until December 1923, when he retired. His successor was Edward Julius. He was the first person to realise the commercial potential of '' Pinus insignis'' (now radiata). He was also noted for his private garden, Dover Street, Malvern. Broken Hill is an inland mining city in the far west of outback New South Wales, Australia. It is near the border with South Australia on the crossing of the Barrier Highway (A32) and the Silver City Highway (B79), in the Barrier Range. Nepabunna, South Australia
Nepabunna, also spelt Nipapanha, is a small community in the northern Flinders Ranges in north-eastern South Australia, about north of Adelaide. It is located just west of the Gammon Ranges, and the traditional owners are the Adnyamathanha people. The settlement was originally established as Nepabunna Mission in 1931, becoming the local government area (LGA) of Nepabunna Community Council with the establishment of a council in 1998. Iga Warta is a separate, independently run small cultural tourism enterprise within the LGA. The Nipabanha Community Aboriginal Corporation runs the Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) over land known as Nantawarrina, once a station for mixed livestock. Arkaroola
Arkaroola is the common name for the ''Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary'', a wildlife sanctuary situated on of freehold and pastoral lease land in South Australia. It is located north of the Adelaide city centre in the Northern Flinders Ranges, adjacent to the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and the Mawson Plateau. The most common way to get there is by car, but air travel can be chartered from Parafield Airport, Adelaide Airport or Aldinga Airfield.
