Ettingshall South And Spring Vale (ward)
Ettingshall South and Spring Vale is a ward of Wolverhampton City Council, West Midlands. Background It was created in 2023 as a result of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England's recommendations that redrew the city's ward boundaries, with the new ward created from the former Spring Vale ward and part of Ettingshall ward. The new boundaries took effect from the May 2023 Council elections. The ward borders the Blakenhall, Ettingshall North and Bilston South wards, as well as the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley to the south. It forms part of the Wolverhampton South East constituency. A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. Spring Vale is a district and former ward of Wolverhampton City Council, West Midlands, England. It is situated SSE of the city centre, on the city's border with the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 12,243. It now forms a part of the Ettingshall South and Spring Vale ward, the new boundaries taking effect from the May 2023 Council elections. Ettingshall is an area of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. It lies within two wards of Wolverhampton City Council: Ettingshall North and Ettingshall South and Spring Vale. The population of Ettingshall taken at the 2011 census was 13,482. History Historically part of Staffordshire, Ettingshall was mentioned as an ancient manor in the Domesday Book of 1086. The surrounding areas of Priestfield, Parkfield, Lanesfield and Millfields are believed to have been property of the manor. From the 18th century onwards, Ettingshall became heavily industrialised as a result of the Industrial Revolution. The 2023 City of Wolverhampton Council election took place on 4 May 2023, alongside other local elections across the United Kingdom. Due to changes in the boundaries of the wards, all 60 seats on the City of Wolverhampton Council, were up for election. All twenty wards elected three councillors. Labour increased its majority on the council. Blakenhall is a suburb and ward of Wolverhampton, England. The population of the ward, including Goldthorn Park, was around 12,600 at the 2021 census. Toponymy and history Blakenhall's name, according to toponymists, comes from the Old English "blæc" (meaning "black") and "halh" (meaning "nook" or "corner"). It was developed during the late 19th century just south of the town centre with hundreds of terraced houses, some with shop fronts, being built on the Dudley Road ( A459) towards Sedgley. Many were also built down the side streets. Wanderers Avenue, the original home of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, can be found in Blakenhall. Bilston is a market town in the City of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands County, West Midlands, England.
