The Ethiopian Army () is the land service branch of the Ethiopian National Defense Force. It is the senior of the two uniformed military branches. The force engages in land warfare and combined arms operations, including armored and mechanized operations as well as air assault operations. The OLA insurgency is an armed insurgency between the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), which split from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) in 2018, and the Ethiopian government, continuing in the context of the long-term Oromo conflict, typically dated to have started with the formation of the Oromo Liberation Front in 1973. Birhanu Jula Gelalcha (, born 1965) is an Ethiopian military officer who is the current Chief of General Staff (Ethiopia), Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force since 4 November 2020.
