Ethics Council (Ukraine)
The Ukrainian Ethics Council is a legal body of three Ukrainian and three international members created in 2021 to appoint members of the Supreme Council of Justice. Anti-corruption organisations AutoMaidan, Dejure, and Anti-Corruption Action Center criticised the Council's June 2022 appointments as including "tainted" judges and for refusing a well-known anti-corruption judge and whistleblower, Larysa Golnyk. Legal basis The Ukrainian Ethics Council was legally defined by Ukrainian law No. 1635-IX, "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine concerning the procedure for selection (appointment) to the positions of members of the High Council of Justice and the activities of disciplinary inspectors of the High Council of Justice". ''The Kyiv Independent'' is an English-language Ukrainian online newspaper founded in 2021 by former staff of the ''Kyiv Post'' and media consultancy Jnomics Media. The online newspaper is also active on Twitter. Founding In October 2021, disputes arose between employees of the ''Kyiv Post'' and the owner of the newspaper. Behind them, journalists at the newspaper believed that even under presidency of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, their previous critical reporting was adversely affecting the business of the owner, who had bought the newspaper from Mohammad Zahoor in March 2018, and invested significant funds in the barely profitable newspaper. The owner is Syrian-born major investor Adnan Kivan (Kadorr Group, which owns Channel Odessa 7). Transparency International e.V. (TI) is a German registered association founded in 1993 by former employees of the World Bank. Venice Commission
The Venice Commission, officially European Commission for Democracy through Law, is an advisory body of the Council of Europe, composed of independent experts in the field of constitutional law. It was created in 1990 after the fall of the Berlin Wall, at a time of urgent need for constitutional assistance in Central and Eastern Europe. Creation The idea to create a Commission for Democracy through Law as a group of experts in constitutional law was conceived by the then Minister for Community Policies of Italy, Antonio Mario La Pergola. Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office ( uk, Спеціалізована антикорупційна прокуратура) or SAPO is an independent structural unit of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, and is primarily responsible for supporting and overseeing criminal investigations launched by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). Oleksandr Klymenko (detective)
Oleksandr Klymenko ( uk, Олександр Клименко) is a Ukrainian detective. He has been head of the Ukrainian Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) since 28 July 2022. Klymenko worked for five years at the Ukrainian National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), participating in investigations including those of Roman Nasirov and Oleksandr Onyshchenko. The Supreme Council of Justice ( ua, Вища рада правосуддя) is the national council of the judiciary of Ukraine, which nominates judges to be appointed by the President of Ukraine. Sir Anthony Hooper, PC (born 16 September 1937) is a British judge (retired), former professor of law, and a member of Matrix Chambers. He joined Matrix Chambers in 2013 after his retirement from the Court of Appeal of England and Wales.
