Etheostoma Thompsoni
The gumbo darter (''Etheostoma thompsoni'') is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish, a darter from the subfamily Etheostomatinae, part of the family Percidae, which also contains the perches, ruffes and pikeperches. It is found in the Neches, Sabine, and Calcasieu River drainages in southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. They inhabit riverbanks, where there are exposed roots with accumulated vegetational debris, and sand to mixed sand and gravel substrate with very little silt. This species can reach a length of . The gumbo darter was first formally described in 2012 by Royal Dallas Suttkus, Henry L. Bart Jr and David A. B A Steinhagen Reservoir is located near the town of Jasper, Texas in the east Texas Piney Woods at 30.85 North Latitude and 94.19 West Longitude. The borders of Tyler County and Jasper County are defined by the bed of the Neches River, and therefore bisect the lake on a North/South line. The lake was created as part of a project that focused on creating lakes for recreation, power generation, and water conservation on the Neches River and the Angelina River.
