''Estrellas'' is the seventh studio album by the Gipsy Kings released in 1995 in Europe and a year later in the United States, under the title ''Tierra Gitana''. Overview The album was later released as ''Tierra Gitana'' in the United States, albeit with a different song order. The only differences are the replacement of the song "Los Peces en el Rio" for the instrumental song "Forever"; the song "Mujer" is also slightly different. Also, "A Tu Vera" is a different version than the one that appeared on ''The Best of the Gipsy Kings''. Gipsy Kings (originally Los Reyes) are a musical group founded in 1979 in Arles, France. The band, whose members have Catalans, Catalan heritage, play a blend of Catalan rumba, flamenco, Salsa music, salsa, and Pop music, pop. Flamenco
Flamenco () is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the Gitanos, gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Region of Murcia, Murcia. In a wider sense, the term is used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani people, Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. Rumba flamenca, also known as flamenco rumba or simply rumba (), is a ''palo'' (style) of flamenco music developed in Andalusia, Spain. It is known as one of the '' cantes de ida y vuelta'' (roundtrip songs), music which diverged in the new world, then returned to Spain in a new form. The genre originated in the 19th century in Andalusia, southern Spain, where Cuban music first reached the country. History Rumba flamenca was primarily influenced by guaracha, an uptempo style of vocal music which originated in Havana's musical theatre. Some elements from Cuban rumba were also incorporated, although minor, despite the name. Although unlikely, both guaracha and Cuban rumba might have been influenced by flamenco earlier in the 19th century. Canut Reyes
François Reyes (born 9 June 1954), better known as Canut Reyes, is a French guitarist, singer, songwriter, and painter of Spanish Gitano descent, best known for being part of the group Gipsy Kings. Biography Canut Reyes was born in Strasbourg, the son of flamenco vocalist Jose Reyes (1928–1979) and Clementine Nésanson (died 2005). Canut was part of the musical group his father and brothers started around 1974, called Jose Reyes et Los Reyes. They played their version of flamenco at private parties in the south of France. José Reyes died in 1979, after battling lung cancer. After their father's death, the brothers joined with their Baliardo cousins, adopting the new name Gipsy Kings, a tribute to their gypsy roots and the surname "Reyes" which means "kings" in Spanish.
