Estonia In The Eurovision Song Contest 1999
Estonia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 with the song "Diamond of Night", composed by Priit Pajusaar and Glen Pilvre, with lyrics by Maian Kärmas and Kaari Sillamaa, and performed by Evelin Samuel and Camille. The Estonian participating broadcaster, (ETV), organised the national final '''99'' in order to select its entry for the contest. Eesti Televisioon (ETV) () is an Estonian free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Estonian Public Broadcasting. It made its first broadcast on 19 July 1955. History Eesti Televisioon (''Estonian Television'') was launched on 19 July 1955. Before that, television broadcasts in Estonia could only be received from Moscow. The first Estonian-language TV presenter was Ofelia Mikk, whose debut was in the 19 July 1955 test broadcast. Her tenure in television was cut short, because she misspoke out of nervousness. Katrina and the Waves were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Cambridge in 1981, widely known for their 1985 hit "Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song), Walking on Sunshine". They won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Love Shine a Light". Katrina Leskanich
Katrina Elizabeth Leskanich ( ; born April 10, 1960) is an American musician and the former lead singer of the British pop rock band Katrina and the Waves. Their song "Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song), Walking on Sunshine" was an international hit in 1985. In 1997, the band won the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, Eurovision Song Contest for the United Kingdom with the song "Love Shine a Light". Both songs were written by Leskanich's long-term bandmate Kimberley Rew. Early life Leskanich was born in Topeka, Kansas. Noel Kelehan
John William "Noel" Kelehan (26 December 1935 – 6 February 2012) was an Irish people, Irish musician, Conductor (music), conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and musical director of RTÉ, Radio Telefís Éireann. He retired as conductor in 1998. Life and career As well as being an accomplished jazz pianist, he was most famous for being the conductor of many Irish entries to the Eurovision Song Contest, beginning in 1966 and ending in 1998. He conducted five winning Irish entries, in 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, and 1996. In 1994, the winning song was performed without orchestral accompaniment. However, an entry rated second that year, "To nie ja!" performed by Edyta Górniak from Poland, was also conducted by Kelehan. He also conducted the entry from Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1993. Björgvin Helgi Halldórsson (alternate names: Bo Halldórsson, Björgvin Halldórsson or Bo Hall) (born 16 April 1951) is an Icelandic pop singer from Hafnarfjörður. Ojārs Raimonds Pauls (born 12 January 1936) is a Latvian composer and a pianist who is well known in the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe. He was the Minister of Culture of Latvia from 1988 to 1993. Anders Olof Berglund (born 21 July 1948) is a Swedish arranger, composer, conductor, pianist and musician. Career Born in Stockholm, Berglund is best known as conductor of Melodifestivalen, the Swedish final of the Eurovision Song Contest. He was musical director of the ESC when the event was hosted by Sweden in Malmö in 1992. In addition he also acted as one of the Swedish commentators for the 1999 Contest together with Pekka Heino. Rein Rannap (born 6 October 1953 in Tallinn) is an Estonian composer and pianist. Since 1968, Rannap has given numerous public piano performances. Rannap has been active in management and composition for Ruja, Noor-Eesti and Hõim. Pianist career Rannap gave his first solo concert in 1968. Since that time, he has performed piano concerts in many regions of the (former) Soviet Union, a number of European countries, as well as Australia and United States. Hanna Pruuli
Hannah Ild (' Pruuli; born 12 May 1981), known professionally as Hannah, is an Estonian songwriter, singer, and pianist of ballads and classic pop. Early life and education Ild's interest in music began at an early age. She began singing even before she could speak. When she was three years old, she joined the Children Music Studio. From there she went on to join the Estonian Radio Singing Studio. When she was seven, Hannah Ild joined the elite Estonian TV Girls' Choir. At the same time she also began to attend the Tallinn Music School. Here she realized her talent for playing piano. By the time she was thirteen, she had produced her first song called "Childhood Land", composing lyrics and music together, which won first place in the Estonian Children's Song Competition in 1995.
