Estevan Motor Speedway
The Estevan Motor Speedway is a dirt race track located near Estevan, Saskatchewan which typically features several classes of stock car racing. The Estevan Motor Speedway was built in 1999 after several local residents decided it was time to bring dirt track racing back to Saskatchewan's southeast, officially opening in 2000. The track, a 3/8 mile high-bank oval, is located on land donated by the Luscar Coal Mine, a short distance from the Shand Power Station. Estevan Motor Speedway is certified by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), the only track in Canada to receive that certification. Regular races are typically held between May and August. The season concludes each September with an Enduro Race. Estevan is the eighth-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is approximately north of the Canada–United States border. The Souris River runs by the city. This city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Estevan No. 5. History The first settlers in what was to become Estevan arrived in 1892, along with the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Shand Power Station
Shand Power Station is a coal fired station owned by SaskPower in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, near the city of Estevan. Description The Shand Power Station consists of: *one 279 net MW unit (commissioned in 1992) *advanced environmental controls through a LIFAC (Limestone Injection into the Furnace and reActivation of Calcium) system The boilers are supplied by Babcock & Wilcox and the turbines/generator are supplied by Hitachi. The International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) was organized in 1915 by J. Alex Sloan, and is currently the oldest active auto racing sanctioning body in the United States.
