Estela Jiménez Esponda
Estela Jiménez Esponda was a Mexican professor, feminist, suffragist and women's rights activist. She directed the newspaper ''Nosotras'' (Us) and was a leader in the development of the Communist Party. During the elections and early tenure of President Lázaro Cárdenas when it appeared he was supportive of women's achievement of the vote, Jiménez served as a sector leader of Institutional Revolutionary Party#Reorganization and Name change, Party of the Mexican Revolution (PRM) and was involved in the Frente Unico Pro Derechos de la Mujer (FUPDM) (United Front for Women‟s Rights). The FUPDM, which had begun in the 1920s, declined after the unsuccessful ratification of the amendment to Article 34 of the Constitution granting Suffrage, enfranchisement to women. Jiménez tried to revive the work, leading the PRM's Women's Block (1943), without much success especially when the party reorganized as PRI and she moved further left. Lázaro Cárdenas
Lázaro Cárdenas del Río (; 21 May 1895 – 19 October 1970) was a Mexican army officer and politician who served as president of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. Previously, he served as a general in the Constitutional Army during the Mexican Revolution and as Governor of Michoacán and President of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. He later served as the Secretariat of National Defense (Mexico), Secretary of National Defence. Institutional Revolutionary Party
The Institutional Revolutionary Party (, , PRI) is a List of political parties in Mexico, political party in Mexico that was founded in 1929 as the National Revolutionary Party (, PNR), then as the Party of the Mexican Revolution (, PRM) and finally as the PRI beginning in 1946. The party held uninterrupted power in the country and controlled the President of Mexico, presidency twice: the first one was for 71 years, from 1929 to 2000, the second was for six years, from 2012 to 2018. Suffrage, political franchise, or simply franchise is the right to vote in public, political elections and referendums (although the term is sometimes used for any right to vote). Josefina Vicens
Josefina Vicens (also referred to by her nickname, La Peque, 23 November 1911 – 22 November 1988) was a Mexican author, screenwriter, and journalist. She is considered to be one of Mexico's seminal women writers. She is best known for her two novels, ''El libro vacío'' (‘The empty book;’ published first in Spanish in 1958 and in English in 1992) and ''Los años falsos'' (‘The false years;’ first published in Spanish in 1982 and in English in 1989) and for her pioneering contributions to twentieth-century Mexican politics and political thought through her activism and journalism.
