Estaleiro Mauá
Mauá Shipyard SA is the oldest private Brazilian shipyard, being surpassed only by the state-owned Arsenal da Marinha do Brasil, which was founded in 1808. Its origin is the Anglo-Brazilian company ''Estabelecimento de Fundição e Estaleiros da Ponta d'Areia'', located in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, and was bought on August 11, 1846, by Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, at the time Baron of Mauá. In 2000, the company entered into a joint-venture with Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, creating the company Mauá Jurong S/A (MJ). The new company, in addition to the construction and repair of ships, specializes in the construction of platforms for oil and gas exploration. The shipyard remains in operation, even with the crisis installed in Brazil. Guanabara Bay
Guanabara Bay (, , ) is an oceanic bay in Southeast Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro. On its western shore lie the cities of Rio de Janeiro (city), Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias, and on its eastern shore are the cities of Niterói and São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, São Gonçalo. Four other municipalities surround the bay's shores. Guanabara Bay is the second largest bay in area in Brazil (after the All Saints' Bay), at , with a perimeter of . Guanabara Bay is long and wide at its maximum. Its wide mouth is flanked at the eastern tip by the Pico do Papagaio (Parrot's Peak) and the western tip by Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro, Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf). The Rio de Janeiro Navy Arsenal (; AMRJ) is a military organization of the Brazilian Navy. It is located in Ilha das Cobras, at the Guanabara Bay, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Arsenal is the main maintenance center and naval base of the Brazilian Navy, involving the design, construction and maintenance of ships and submarines, not only for the Brazilian Navy, but also friendly nations. The AMRJ provides shipbuilding services both for military strategic reasons (mastery of technologies, seeking the reduction of external dependence), as economic ones, seeking nationalisation of components and the encouragement of domestic industry.
