Estadio Altamira is the current stadium for the team Estudiantes de Altamira, which plays in the Liga de Ascenso. The stadium, which seats 9,581 people, is located in the port city of Altamira in the state of Tamaulipas. History The idea of constructing Estadio Altamira (initially called ''Estadio Deportivo Sur de Tamaulipas''), was the initiative of the founder of the club, Enrique de Hita Yibale. The effort was done as a whole, along with the State and Municipal Authorities; and the Office of Urban Development of the Industrial Port of Altamira. On December 17, 2002, the construction was approved. The construction began in January 2003, and it was billed as "modern and the only in his type in the whole Mexican Republic". Altamira Municipality, Tamaulipas
Altamira is a municipality in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It is located immediately to the north of the municipalities of Tampico and Ciudad Madero, at the southern tip of the state of Tamaulipas, on the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, it borders the municipalities of González on the west and Aldama on the north, as well as Pánuco in the state of Veracruz on the southeast. ''Altamira'' can also refer to the city, founded in 1749, that is its municipal seat and second-largest community. Altamira Fútbol Club, or Estudiantes de Altamira (previously known as Estudiantes de Santander) was a Mexican football team that was based in Altamira, Tamaulipas. History On July 12, 2001, the expansion club ''Estudiantes de Santander'' announced an open try-out that was attended by hundreds of youths in Tamaulipas, wishing to form part of the club that would begin play in the Segunda División de México (Second Division). The club was officially founded on August 11, 2001. During the 2004-05 season, the club was promoted to the Primera A (now Liga de Ascenso), where they became a farm team to San Luis and later, Pumas UNAM.
