Essington Rugby Union Football Club is an English rugby union club that plays in the Midlands Division in the Midlands 4 West (North) league. The club was formed in 1998 as a merger between 3 local sides - Old Oaks, Rubery Owen and Wulfrun. 2007 - 2008 Season The 2007-2008 season saw Essington reach their first ever cup final. The Staffordshire Rugby Union is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Staffordshire in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Staffordshire, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. It also administers the Staffordshire county rugby representative teams. Staffordshire Owen Cup
The Staffordshire Owen Cup is an annual rugby union knock-out club competition organised by the Staffordshire Rugby Union. It was first introduced during the 1980–81 season, with the inaugural winners being Willenhall. It is the third most important rugby union cup competition in Staffordshire, behind the Staffordshire Senior Cup and Staffordshire Intermediate Cup. The Owen Cup is open to club sides based in Staffordshire and parts of the West Midlands typically playing in tier 8 (Midlands 3 West (North)), tier 9 (Midlands 4 West (North)) and tier 10 (Midlands 5 West (North)) of the English rugby union system. The current format is a knock-out competition with a preliminary round, first round, semi-finals and a final played at a neutral ground in April–May. Teams that are knocked out of the early rounds of the cup take part in the Owen Rubery Cup which has a semi-final and final, held on the same date and same venue as the Owen Cup final. Midlands 5 West (North)
Midlands 5 West (North) was a level 10 English Rugby Union league and level 5 of the Midlands League, that was made up of teams from the northern part of the West Midlands region including clubs from parts of Birmingham and the West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and even Cheshire, with home and away matches played throughout the season. Each year some of the clubs in this division took part in the RFU Junior Vase - a level 9-12 national competition. The league was formed in 2005 and was originally known as Midlands 6 West (North) prior to the Midlands league restructure at the end of the 2008-09 season. Promoted teams typically moved up to Midlands 4 West (North) and there was relegation due to it being one of the basement divisions for Midlands rugby. Eccleshall is a town and civil parish in the Stafford district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. It is located seven miles northwest of Stafford, and six miles west-southwest of Stone. Eccleshall is twinned with Sancerre in France. History According to the Domesday Book, Eccleshall in 1086 was no more than a small village of about one hundred inhabitants. A few fragments of stone at the base of the tower of the present Parish Church of Holy Trinity suggest that a stone church was in existence about this time and the base of a 10th-century cross still stands outside the church.
