Essen Family
The Essen family or von Essen is the name of a Baltic nobility, Baltic German noble family which later became part of the Swedish nobility, Swedish and Russian nobility. History The first known ancestor was Thomas von Essen (d. 1615–1627) who was from Lääne län in Estonia. His son Alexander von Essen received Swedish nobility, but was not introduced in the Swedish House of Nobility. His descendants, Reinhold Wilhelm von Essen (1669–1732) and Hans Henrik von Essen (1674–1729), were elevated to Baron in 1717 and 1719. Hans Henrik von Essen was later elevated to comital rank. Another was Magnus Gustav von Essen (1759–1813), a Russian lieutenant general and military governor of Riga. Peter Essen
Count Peter Essen (, tr. Pyotr Kirillovich Essen; 11 August 1772 – 23 September 1844) was a Baltic German General of the Infantry in 1819 and a count (1833). He belongs to the bourgeois Essen family from Pärnu (not to be confused with the Baltic German noble Essen family, which had the ''von'' prefix in the name). Essen's only daughter, Alexandrine Essen (1816–1868), married count Pontus von Stenbock-Fermor (1806–1866) in 1835, at which point they began using the joint name Essen-Stenbock-Fermor. Career Essen enlisted as a sergeant in the Life Cuirassier Regiment in 1787, and transferred to the Pavlovsky heir battalion in 1790. World Memory Championships
The World Memory Championships is an organized competition of memory sports in which competitors memorize as much information as possible within a given period of time. The championship has taken place annually since 1991, with the exception of 1992. It was originated by Tony Buzan and co founded by Tony Buzan and Ray Keene. It continues to be organized by the World Memory Sports Council (WMSC), which was jointly founded by Tony Buzan and Ray Keene. In 2016, due to a dispute between some players and the WMSC, the International Association of Memory (IAM) was launched. Baron Sven Christer Jonas von Essen (born 24 April 1991) is a Swedish two-time world memory champion. He was a memory sports player from 2012 to 2015. In April 2019 he co-founded memoryOS, an ed-tech startup developing memory improvement software. Prior to 1865, the New York City Fire Department was staffed by volunteers. On March 30, 1865 the New York State legislature passed a law organizing the Metropolitan Fire Department as a paid firefighting force that took control of all the powers and authority of the volunteer department, as well as all the assets such as the fire trucks, equipment, and buildings. Baron Fredrik von Essen (30 July 1831 – 3 October 1921) was a Swedish politician, ''friherre'', Marshal of the Realm and lord of Kavlås Castle. Von Essen was member of the House of knights and nobility in the Riksdag of the Estates 1862–1863 and 1865–1866, and member of the Riksdag's first chamber (Första kammaren) 1867–1874 and 1877–1906.
